Shopping time

This is the second of the three shots I've submitted to the contest "ASEF On the go".  I'd like to remember yout that if you like this photo you can click on the picture and then just click on the big red heart ♥ to give me your vote. No registration required  ;-)

As explained in the previous post, this competition is about differences and similarities between Asia and Europe, showing people and scenes in motion. So my second interpretation of this guideline regards a side of japanese lifestyle:

"A shopping street in central Osaka filled with myriad of japanese people and tourists. The western consumeristic lifestyle is outstandingly popular in Japan, yet opposed to their traditional living."

I hope you'll find it interesting. Tomorrow I'll try to publish the third shot, stay tuned and have a nice day! ;-)

Moving a nation

This is the first of three shot I've submitted to the contest "ASEF On the go".  If you like it, click on the picture and then just click on the big red heart ♥ I would really appreciate your support ;-)

The competition is about differences and similarities between Asia and Europe, showing people and scenes in motion. So my first interpretation of this guideline is the train in Japan:

"D51 steam locomotive operating in Kyoto. Railways and locomotives appeared in Japan in late 1800. This western technology has been embraced by Japan as the foremost mean of transportation and growth."

PS: Wow, it's an entire month I can't publish anything on social networks; I'm sorry, it's been a really tough and busy period. I hope you didn't forget me! ;-)

Streamline

This is the last shot I took this year in Japan, the Kansai International Airport. It's the ceiling of the Terminal 1 and its geometries are awesome.
Did you know that this airport has been designed by the italian architect Renzo Piano and the japanese Noriaki Okabe? It has the shape of an aerofoil to ventilate the inner volume of the giant terminal and I couldn't refrain to capture this architectonic wonder, even if I was buried with about 180Kg of luggage...

PS: as I've already said in the previous post, I'll keep on sharing my shots of Japan (there are thousands waiting for the retouching process) and at the same time I'll start to show something of my "Italian chapter" ;-)

"Sakura TV"

One of the funny things about seasonal events here in Japan is that before they take place there's a hype that makes the people eager to take part to them and, as a result, the places theatre of those events become overcrowded and not so enjoyable...
In the case of Sakura blooming, great efforts are put in informing the people through "blooming forecast" and "real-time video monitoring" of the most famous places. Moreover every TV Channel has a crew that live broadcasts a news report about the event.
I took this shot in Tenma, Osaka, during the last day of "Hanami walk"(that is a stroll while admiring the beauty of cherry trees): a reporter is getting ready for the live broadcast, under the watchful eye of a guard who protects her from the rubbernecks (like me...).

"Castle nightscape"

I've just shared this shot also on +500px at: http://500px.com/photo/65336309

A view of the castle of Osaka at night. I looked for this vantage point for quite a while, checking on the maps the right alignment and distance. My purpose was to show the contrast between the classical shape of the castle (which anyway is a modern reconstruction of the ancient one) and the modern look of the skyscrapers.
In Japan is easy to find this kind of "fusion" of past and future, of classic and modernity; sometimes this is unpleasant, for the presence of industrial areas or ugly buildings, but in this occasion I think to have found a cool view.
Unfortunately in this occasion too, I found some difficulty in taking this photo, because the security requisitioned my tripod, so I had to find a stable horizontal surface to shoot from. After some contorsions I managed to take three long exposures that I blended together to obtain this image. I hope that you like it

"Radioactive"

This is the last photo of the Cosplay event that took place in DenDen Town, Osaka. Compared to the previous shots, this is quite different because I decided to decontextualize the character, making him appear from the dark as a ghost or a strange creature. This to emphasize his "post-apocalyptic" meaning...
This scaring figure made me think about the song "Radioactive", by +Imagine Dragons so I use the occasion to show this shot as a tribute to one of the bands I like :-)

"Cosplay in DenDen Town IV"

Going around during a Cosplay event is an amazing experience: everyone is having fun and the cosplayers show their self-made dresses, posing for hundreds of photographers and anime & manga enthusiasts.
Another funny aspect, from my photographer's point of view, is to jump and "swim" into the crowd, try to reach the "firing line" and catch the attention of the model for a couple of seconds, to get a chance of shooting a nice portrait: it's an hilariously competitive activity and, to let you have an idea of that situation, in this shot you can see a little corner of the exhibition square during the "shooting competition" :-)

"Cosplay in DenDen Town I"

Now it's officially spring, but it's still quite cold and it's too early to start the "hunting" of cherry blossoms; so today I caught the chance to have a lot of fun in DenDen Town (Osaka). Thousands of people were pouring in the streets of this small area, well known for the many events regarding the japanese manga and pop culture, as well as electronics.
This is the first of some shot that I took in this cool cosplay event, I hope you like it!
