Planes fly between 500 & 650 mph, so east-west sunset flights don't freeze the Sun, but they beautifully prolong twilight.

Supersonic planes can fly east-west fast enough to reverse Sunsets, landing at a clock time earlier than when they took off.

Not likely too critical as the atmosphere is in scale about the thickness of the skin of an apple to the apple. Usually anywhere from 30,000 to 40,000 ft  ( 6 - 8 miles) +1

I wonder what John Glenn saw when he broke the west to east record from California to Floyd Bennett Field. His return total record was held up by air traffic!

Yeah, I remember flying from Beijing to Frankfurt, some 9 hour flight. Took off in early afternoon and the Sun moved what looked like three hours time. Totally messed me up.

As a kid I have watched the sun go down for hours in the engineers seat flying back from Europe.
