Getting up to speed on Consciousness.
Bernard Baars originally shared:
My Scholarpedia article on Consciousness has just been published. It is the best summary of the evidence I have been able to write.

On Global Workspace Theory the last version was published in Frontiers of Psychology by Baars, Franklin and Ramsoy in 2013, called "Global workspace dynamics: cortical "binding and propagation" enables conscious contents." It is the most up-to-date brain basis account within the global workspace framework so far.

(Please see Stan Dehaene's important book from his point of view, which converges well with standard GWT. A joint article with Gerald M. Edelman notes parallels with Neural Darwinism. All these theoretical efforts have made headway, and there are some testable differences. However, I've long thought the similarities are also important. Recent debates focus on the role of prefrontal cortex, for example, are important).

I believe a comparative review of theoretical proposals is needed. If anyone is interested in coauthoring it, please let me know.

I am not giving up on Amazon. I'm continuing to shop there. But this cartoon is worthwhile. If you want to avoid clicking, the caption reads,

“It’s from Aaron, the Amazon employee who packed my headphones. He’s asked me to pass this letter on to his wife and kids.”
