Congratulations to assistant professor Dr. Jessica Devido - recipient of the 2015 of the Rita Carty Junior Faculty Award!

Dr. Devido’s role as a pediatric nurse practitioner and a researcher has led to her interest in the impact of breastfeeding on the health of mothers and children in vulnerable communities. She is currently pursuing community-engaged research on this topic, combined with her position as the president-elect for the Three Rivers National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Breastfeeding Education special interest group, and a board member of the Western Pennsylvania Lactation Consultation Association. Dr. Devido will use the award to pursue her certification as a lactation consultant. Adding this certification will allow her the ability to become a leader on this topic both at the local and national level. She also hopes this added expertise will aid in program development at Duquesne’s School of Nursing with possible interdisciplinary collaboration.
