There is no doubt that you guys in England have a lower murder rate than we do here in the US, but if you look back, you have always had a lower murder rate than us, even in the years before the 1997 gun control. America is just a more violent country because we have black gangs that are killing each other in the inner cities. Instead of Piers comparing the UK to the US, he needs to compare the UK to itself, before the 97 gun control and after. In the 13 years prior to the 97 ban the murder rate was 11.4 per 100 thousand. In the 13 years after the ban the average jumped up to 13.4 murders per 100 thousand, so this means that the overall murder rate in the UK jumped around 18% after gun control was enacted. The gun murder rate went down, but murders and attacks with knives went up. Home invasions also went through the roof, because when the guns were banned the criminals no longer feared being shot. Since gun control the people of the UK , statistically, have a greater chance of being murdered, but less of a chance that a gun will be used to murder them.
