Should you use pectin?
Pectin is an ingredient that is used to thicken up jams and jellies. It is totally possible to can jam and jelly without pectin, but I haven’t mastered that yet. So the question remains, should I use pectin in my jam.

No dig gardening is a great way to cut down on weeds, watering, and enrich your soil and it even takes less effort than conventional double digging or tilling. Laying down a thick mulch suppresses weeds and holds in moisture, and the materials break down in place, feeding the plants for you. You can start a no dig garden at any time of the year, but if you really want a good head start, lay down a thick mulch in the fall and let it break down all winter before planting in the spring.
Using mulch in a no dig garden cuts down on weeding, feeds the plants, and cuts down on watering.

Until you get the soil layer built, no till also means LOTS of bugs. Poor soil grows bugs. The heavy mulching of no-till methods just gives them a nice overwinter home. I'm using my chickens this year - letting them run amuck and scratch to their hearts content to combat the bugs.

With a unique personality and usefulness for meat, it's easy to see why raising turkeys is a fun adventure! The Homesteading Hippy #fromthefarm #turkeys
Getting started with turkeys is a fun adventure. We have raised our own for 5 years now, and regret nothing. They are amazing birds, with an unique personality all their own. I love watching them run and play with the chickens, “swim” with the ducks, and take dust baths. We have also had them run… [read more]
