Tara Hilton, Founder of The Yellow Cape - Delaware's Endo Community, is truly an Endo Slayer! In the 2 years since her surgery, Tara has not only focused on making positive life changes which have contributed to her overall health and wellness, she has continued to give back to women by advocating for the proper care that patients like herself are in great need of. To honor Tara's 2-year surgery milestone of her endometriosis journey, she stopped by the office to snap a photo with Dr. Barbara McGuirk. Congratulations on your RADversary, Tara! 💛

As a young girl, Amanda Wade’s imagination was overtaken by the magic and mystique that accompanies the field of medicine. Little did she know, her dreams of one day becoming a nurse were nearly compromised, due to the chronic pelvic pain that consumed her petite frame. After many years of searching for the right specialist with the correct answers, Amanda received her happy ending in Dr. Barbara McGuirk. “Once I recovered [from the surgery], I had never felt so good in my entire life."

This week, Keith Stalker, Technical Support Engineer, and Lauren Foraker, Patient Advocacy Intern, were able to join ultrasound technician students on a guided tour of Reproductive Associates of Delaware’s Embryology Lab. The tour was conducted by two of our embryologists, Amelia Howe and Sara Naspo, who gave an in-depth presentation on the entire IVF process. Without a doubt, RAD is bridging the gap to fertility for the Endometriosis & Pelvic Pain patients!

One of the most prominent ingredients in the Whole 30 diet plan is organic apple cider vinegar. There are many health benefits that accompany this all-natural elixir such as lowering high blood pressure and sugar levels, warding off harmful bacterial growth in the GI tract, assisting in weight loss and fat accumulation around the stomach and abdomen, in addition to reducing cholesterol and improving overall heart health. Dr. McGuirk highly recommends introducing apple cider vinegar to your daily routine, in an effort to increase energy and foster wellness from the inside out. For tips and tricks on how to incorporate this tonic into your meal schedule, visit our Pinterest account at https://bit.ly/2RXhKvw!

Lauren Foraker, a young, performing artist and Delaware native, has been a patient of RAD’s Endometriosis & Pelvic Pain Center for just over a year. This vivacious woman was a prisoner of chronic pelvic pain for years, until she met Dr. Barbara McGuirk. “She approached my case as an investigator, desiring to figure out why endometriosis was causing me so much pain, and how she could work with me and partner with me to help me achieve remission.” 💛

Hollywood has been one of America’s primary resources for entertainment since the turn of the 20th Century. While some classic television dramas have a way of captivating us, others have a way of falling flat — particularly when they are centered around medical inaccuracies. ABC’s, "The Good Doctor," is such an example. In one of the latest episodes titled, “36 Hours,” a female patient who suffers from endometriosis, endures a 27-hour open laparotomy operation, as well as a hysterectomy that she did not consent to! The Endometriosis Foundation of America's Honorary Medical Director Emeritus and Senior Medical Advisor, Dr. Harry Reich, was astonished. “Seriously? Someone call Guinness World Records for longest endometriosis procedure known to mankind.” 💛

As women, a concept ingrained within us is that in order to be beautiful, pain is necessary. Sinead Smythe understands this concept very well, and challenged the thought process that pain is normal from an endo sufferer’s point of view on Halloween. This season, she decided to showcase her beauty and invisible pain in the most profound way, by dressing as the endometriosis disease. Smythe’s bravery and confidence to bear her life-long struggle to the public, has made her a viral sensation! "I hope people learn that endometriosis is a serious condition and those suffering should receive the support they deserve.”
