Ah! My Snow Trot photo from early last year made the top 15 list on DPReview's annual competition! So excited!
Picking favorites is hard. Nevertheless, our readers were up to the task when we asked them to submit their best shots of 2014. We received over 1400 submissions, and it was no small job picking favorites. We didn't need the reminder, but it underscored just how talented our readership is. Photos were divided into three categories and we settled on a small selection to feature in each.

The View
Rokinon 16mm, ISO 100, f/2, 1/4000
Just a photo so you all know I'm not dead. :) This photo is from the window of my apartment after our first (rather large) snowfall of Winter.

I am very busy with graduate school, and have had to put most photography---even for personal enjoyment---on the back-burner. Stubborn as I am, though, I'll never be down-and-out!

Funny how life can get in the way of so many things. I finally got the post up that concludes my "Florida Preview" photographs. Click the link for the full photo story!
As much as I do not want to admit it, I am very quickly running out of time to devote to photography, be it for personal engagement or even pay. Graduate work in music performance, my main passion ...

General Discussion  -

Quick discussion question. I am shooting a rivalry HS american football game on the sidelines coming up in late September. I have a 200mm f/2 and 400mm f/2.8, and would like to use both. I have a backup camera I could put one of the lenses on, but with the game at night (unsure about stadium lighting), I would prefer to use just my better camera with high ISO. Though I have photographed multiple other sports--about 75 games--this will be my first football game.

Any tips on how to effectively carry around both lenses on/off the camera? Other pointers for shooting a football game?

Most of my shots are with the 400, so I would definitely say to put that on your better ISO camera.  Sure, it'll be long since you have a crop sensor, but that means you can be further down the field to get shots.

However, I would definitely use a zoom on your second lens when the action comes to you.  I have a 70-200 set at 70mm to make sure I at least get a wide shot of what's coming at me.  I can adjust my focal length as needed from there.  A 200mm prime with a crop sensor will be too long for any action within 10-15 yards of you, which is where you can get some great shots.

Hope everyone on here is having a Merry Christmas! Just in time for the holidays, I managed to get another one of my 2014 catch-up posts up, this time detailing my first experience photographing football.
It's a Christmas miracle! No, I'm not dead after all. However, the firm grip of graduate school has my schedule tied up in all sorts of knots. To make a long story short, I have found it nearly imp...

My latest wedding shoot, linked below! Still catching up on past work, and I am getting there!
Still in the pursuit of my goal of catching up with posting past work---before I get into current projects (provided I have time!)---just a month ago I was the main photographer for the wedding of ...

In another catch-up post, take a look at all the landscapes, street photography, and macro work I captured during a brief trip to Nashville, IN, in addition to more bird shots seen here!
