Exuberant, joyous, exciting are just a few words to describe the vivid and colourful work in Sally’s first solo exhibition. Sally’s work is strongly influenced by mandalas featuring owls, birds of peace, flowers and dot patterns aimed at bringing joy and calm to the viewer.

Abundance opens 6-8pm, Friday, 8 April, and is on show at the Collie Art Gallery Thursdays-Mondays, 11am-5pm, until 8 May 2016.

When Collie Art Gallery Creative Director Josh Thomason first conceived of the gallery’s latest exhibition Remnants he never imagined the opening would be a celebration of survival of the worst bushfires in memory.
The exhibition opening on Friday night brought together artists and art lovers from throughout the region all at once horrified and relieved now that the fires were under control.

The forests of south Western Australia have nurtured its people for time immemorial. The first forest dwellers, hunted and gathered among the trees, and fished in its rivers. Later settlers cleared trees to make way for their homes and farms while others thrived and profited from the timber exported to the world. Today just three per cent of those original forests remain – barely a remnant.
With this collaborative exhibition, curator Joshua Thomason has drawn together five prominent artists living and working in the South West who each respond in their own way to the forests that remain.
Remnants at Collie Art Gallery is on show 16 January – 21 February 2016.

Collie has long been known for its rich deposits of black coal which have been the economic foundation of the town for many years.  What few people realise is that the town is also a mine of cultural gold.   The Collie Collection comprising works from renowned Australian artists Norman Lindsay, Guy Grey Smith, Elizabeth Durack and a host of others, has lain hidden away in storage for many years until now.  Finally the collection has found a worthy home in the new Collie Art Gallery and will be the focus of the gallery’s next exhibition opening on 4 September.

The word “selfie” may have only recently made it into dictionaries, but our obsession with how we present ourselves is certainly not a new concept.

The gallery is celebrating the self-image with its first open combined art and photographic competition, Selfies.

Artists and photographers are invited to participate in the exhibition by taking a selfie or producing a self-portrait in any two dimensional medium with a total prize pool of $1500 sponsored by Collie River Valley Marketing.

Click a selfie that shows your place in the Collie landscape, at the skate park, the Bibbulmun Track, somewhere around your school, down by the river or wherever you feel most yourself in and around Collie.   Entries will be judged and finalist chosen to be exhibited at the gallery.

Flick some paint on your palette, pick up your pencils, pastels or pens, and get working on your self-portrait. Abstract or realist, canvas or paper, drawing, print or paint – any combination – it’s up to you. Take a photo of your artwork and email it to the gallery.  Entries will be judged and finalists chosen to be part of the Selfies exhibition.  Finalists will be notified by email and advised to bring their artwork to the gallery on Friday, 12 October, to hang for the exhibition. Finished works must be no larger than 100cm x 100cm, and must be ready to hang with D-rings.

Selfies and self-portraits must be uploaded to Facebook and tagged with #clickcollieselfie.

Total prize pool $1500. Closing date for online entries 25 September 2015.

Download an entry form or drop into the gallery Thursdays-Mondays, 11am-5pm.

Phone 9734 2921 for more information.

Selfies opening night will be Friday, 16 October, and the exhibition will run until Sunday, 29 November 2015
