Why are we spending so much on our mobile phones? CEO +Sholi Loewenthal tries to work out why his iPhone cost 6 times more than the Leagoo Lead 2. What do you think? Are we paying so much because we don't have a platform that allows consumers and producers to collaborate on consumer needs, where it'll be easy to see who's delivering value? This points towards a general need for a coherent and collaborative approach to pursuing value in our economies.

Or maybe it's something else. You vote. Comment. Let us know your thoughts to help us push forward the future of collaboration.

Tragedy gripped our hearts and minds last week as a small group of individuals murdered in the name of Islam. In the aftermath the words "I am Charlie" has been rippled its way around the world.

This blog asks "Are we all Charlie?" and asks what kinds of innovations in social thought and technology are needed in order to bring together all the remarkable ideas and cultures we have developed as humanity so that we can grow and learn together towards a prosperous future shared by everyone.

Really interesting feedback on engage.re from organisations who'll be piloting the system in Westminster

If you'd like to do user test of engage.re let us know, we're looking for feedback on design and user journey

Some exciting moments from our workshop about the Westminster Food Campaign  we organised last week. We brought together people and organisations who are involved with addressing the issues of food poverty and unused food surplus and discussed the current and potential future strategies. Some amazing ideas came out!

We have recently created a video which illustrates one of potential user cases, which is based on a pilot we're developing with our partners. However, bear in mind that everything in the video is hypothetical! Any feedback on the concept as a whole/ design or the video itself would be great. Importantly, we would like to know whether it effectively tells what engage.re is going to do?

Hi all, we're looking for a Lead Developer/CTO to join our team and it'd be great if you spread the word to relevant people. The requirements below should be seen as indicative and we look forward to discussing various options. More info: www.humanityonline.org and feel free to share with relevant people!

THE OPPORTUNITY
This opportunity is for a person looking for new winds and who wants to become involved in the early stages of a startup. We are looking for someone who believes the web can be much more than it is today to become the lead and full time developer in building the engage.re system. You should be passionate about social networks and collaborative tools and be motivated to create something that is underpinned by strong ethical values. You should have experience in agile development processes and be familiar with some open source environments. Experience with decentralised technologies is a big plus.

ABOUT US
Humanity Online is a UK company committed to a charitable profit model. In developing engage.re - a web-platform where all kinds of organisations and people can work together - we’ve been consulting local, national and global organisations to build something that will  work day-to-day in a fun, engaging and practical environment. To date, we’ve designed a solid wireframe prototype, we have an info website and product films and we have established traction with our pilot groups. An alpha pilot with major Westminster organisations has been set to run in 2015, once the prototype has been built.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Your main job will be to develop the technology, and to have fun doing that :) to break that down, you’ll be responsible to lead in the following areas

Choosing a suitable technology stack
Managing development team
Advising and enforcing coding standards and practices
Helping with developing documentation
Writing code

You’ll also be working with the other non-technical (but very passionate and committed) people on the team, translating a vision that has been developing over several years - and which is constantly being refined based on feedback and new insight - into something that works for people in their day-to-day lives. Initially, this role would be a part-time commitment, which would grow into full-time work once the funding has been secured.

REMUNERATIONS
We are likely to achieve between £40,000 and £60,000 seed fund towards the new year, which will be used to finance the team during initial development and testing. Beyond that, there are European funds we are engaging with for mid-term development - and we are also considering other types of investment. Funding applications will be submitted together with our partners who have established track record and a lot of experience in attracting funding. In the long term, we have identified strong revenue streams for the engage.re system to build a strong, sustainable company that makes a genuine contribution to the world wide web.  We are ready to offer co-founder status and equity options to a candidate with the right skill and experience for a project of this type.

To apply, get in touch via email sholi@humanityonline.org

In our blog today http://goo.gl/W4YfMQ we remember the terrible events of the last century that began to unfold of 3-4 August 1914. In a world filled with both positive aspiration yet fraught with conflict - how are we safeguarding the world?

Our judicial systems often rely on expert witnesses, but a Panorama enquiry (http://goo.gl/6Qod5q) shows how many experts are willing to falsify their expert reports in exchange for a paycheck. Isn 't it obvious that if the expert witness is paid by the accused, the incentive is to falsify?

There must be a better way of doing things. Though there may seem to be obvious solutions, a real and lasting solution requires properly understanding the complexity of the issue by bringing together the criminal justice system, legislators and other relevant stakeholders. Only then might a proper solution be found. One that would facilitate the representation of truth rather than the representation of pay-cheques in court. One more national issue that motivates us to build www.engage.re

Mind-numbing public murder

According to the Human Right Commission in 2013 alone 869 women were murdered in so called Honour (HONOUR?!?) Killings http://goo.gl/dYSp8F

Wishing that engage.re was ready for use so that communities could be empowered to work together to eradicate this dreadfulness
