Beverly Cleary, beloved children's author, turns 102 today with 40+ books still in print.

But if you look at your own kids and worry whether they are reading early enough, please remember that Beverly Cleary did not read independently until 3rd grade. When they are 20 or 50 or 102, it will matter far less when they started reading, and far more that a love of reading was not driven out of them by being pushed too hard too early.

A really fun novel about a young woman barnstormer in the roaring 1920s. Give it a try.

An interesting younger YA novel I quite enjoyed. On the clean end of things with no sex or swearing, for those concerned with tweens reading up.

An intense but satisfying read for 10-14 year-olds. Well worth a read.
