Google is regressing by trying to be clever and simplifying its fonts.  Who cares - what we want is better search and a better return for our money (yes, some of us do - or did in my case - spend money using Google tools).

Great - but how do I access somebody's WMT account when they have granted me access?

Services for International and Local Businesses

Article-Services.com can offer you a number of website and blog services. We can maintain your professional or business website so that is kept up to date with any changes made to your business.

We can make sure any price changes or special offers are immediately reflected on your website - either on a page devoted to 'What's New' or in your clients faces right there on your Home page. Why update your offers if nobody can see them?

We can also promote your updated site on this Facebook page and also throughout the social media so that people can immediately see that your prices have dropped or that you have something new to offer them.

I have been looking further into the Meta data character counts permitted by Google. It now seems that characters are no longer important in relation to what is displayed on Google's search engine results pages.

Previously, 59 characters for the title/heading and around 159 for the description appeared to be the maximum that would be displayed naturally in a listing on Google.

Now it appears as if Google has switched to pixel length for titles/headings, rather than character count. The less space taken up by each letter then the more characters you are able to use.

512 pixels seems to be the limit, though you lose 12 pixels for the ellipsis that is used if your title goes over that - so 512 pixels will show, but only 500 pixels of your title if it is greater than 512.

The description, or snippet, that appears below the heading in a listing now seems to be 2 lines, irrespective of character count. This is the contents of the Meta 'Description' tag.

This  makes it more difficult to judge the optimum length of your 'Title' and 'Description' tags in the Head section of your website or blog HTML.

When browsing about I came across this useful tool to show how your title and description will look in a Google listing:

I am not yet applying this to the content articles I am writing from my website http://www.article-services.com but can do so on request.

Outage or not Google's doodlers should be ashamed of themselves!  They totally missed Burn's day today (January 25th). Every insignificant American festival is welcome with bells and whistles, but the important ones? Nix!!

At least not in the UK version - while Americans can go to Google.co.uk  we cannot go to Google.com! What's that inconsistency all about?

All Scots are now defecting to Bing!  Come on Google - get your act together!  Wur Rabbie is no' that unknown!!
