Heard of the Hero action camcorder? Meet his German challenger!
The GoPro line of action camcorders gets some serious competition
Imagine you are skydiving, racing a bike, skiing, bungee jumping or just wild water canoeing and you want to record your adventure. What will capture these extreme moments for others to see and for yourself to enjoy time and time again?

Enter the actioncam: video cameras made for just that purpose. They are light, have all kind of straps and tools to attach them to helmets, cars, bikes or whatever you come up with and they record these adrenaline filled moments in High Definition.

The best-known player in this industry is no doubt California based GoPro, who has a fantastic series of cameras and accessories. It ranges from entry level models to dual camera setups that can capture your adventure in 3D!

However, there is some serious competition out there. Meet the newest Gobandit model, a worthy contender from Germany. What to do if you face a truly successful product from your competitor? Throw the towel into the corner and avoid the battle? “Not us, thought Aleks Ristic, CEO and co-founder of Gobandit, “We will out-innovate them”.

Two years ago they launched the Gobandit GPS HD which not just recorded the video, but actively tracked location, speed and altitude. So you could do more than replay the experience: you could learn from your data as well. The German company has gradually evolved towards cameras, which really capture all the action.

At last week´s CES show Gobandit launched their most futuristic model money can buy. Introducing the new Live: a camcorder with on board GPS, a 3-axis gyro sensor which (that?) accurately records the camera's position in space, a barometer to measure height and, using the integrated wireless connection, you can even incorporate your heartbeat into the video to capture every pulse-spiking second.

Imagine completely reliving the moment, every movement you made, every beat your heart missed. By using a 170 degrees fisheye lens nothing will go unnoticed. This 2,8 lens can be rotated for optimum position and feeds a low light sensitivity 2,2 uM sensor. The lens is from real glass and custom made. No plastic ruining a good sensor here.

Now, I did wonder if you really need a Wifi connection while trying to beat someone diving from an airplane. Midflight I would prefer to have a decent spare parachute over a chance to check the landing spot on Google earth, but it actually makes sense. Not only is it extremely convenient to get the data fast to a computer - without having to connect things while you are still full of adrenaline and buckled up in your gear - but it´s also crucial for communication between camcorder and so called ANT+ devices like a heartbeat monitor.

The Wifi connection comes with an app for a smartphone to view and control the camera from a distance. Now that seems to me a great concept for us keyboard heroes. While your friend is free falling to earth, you could be adjusting settings and monitor his performance. I look forward to trying one and monitor a dare devil from the safety of my deck chair.

Not only great for thrill seekers, but a perfect tool for professional athletes as well: they can comfortably study their performance and see if they can corner even faster or endure even more G-forces as everything gets recorded.

That is probably the most compelling feature: the bundled software will let you edit your videos and upload them to the Gobandit community website. And we are not talking about an ordinary video: it shows all the collected data like speed, altitude, G-force and heartbeat integrated in the video itself. Next to the spectacular video everyone can see the map showing your GPS recorded track. You can freely choose from several skins to get a unique look on your adventures.

Best of all the Gobandit is heart hard to beat at the announced price of $429.00. If you don´t need the Wifi but still want the gyro, the GPS, the barometer and the same camcorder you get away with $329.00. The bad news: you will have to wait until March before it´s available. Be aware: the product was shown on CES but there is no independent test available so the story is based on specs, demos and my high hopes for this product. The past has learned that high hopes and reality do not always match :)

Need more specs or want to look at all the accessories: head over to their website at http://www.gobandit.com/live.html

Enjoy the video and let me know what you would do with it if you had one. Maybe we can get Gobandit to make one available for the best suggestion

Just WOW!

( #crFri :01) Casper, the Friendly Ghost is Snowboarding!

Amazing and beautiful video of a snowboarder descending the slopes by night, dressed in a custom suit made of LEDs, illuminating himself and the slope.

I'll try that too, but as I do not snowboard, I'll get some LED pyjamas to surf around the house by night, and frighten the kids in my Casper suit...

tl;dr:Ghosts. Are. Real!

The high definition sports action camcorder with integrated GPS
Introduction
At gobandit, we love Action Sports, we love Video and we love Technology.
In the past, we used a GPS to measure our sports performance and a video camera to record the action. The results and the footage rocked, but it always felt like we were carrying one too many products!

We wanted everything in one device; so we developed the first high definition sports action camcorder with integrated GPS – the gobandit GPSHD action cam.

By combining performance data like speed and altitude with the highest quality video in one compact device … now we have video proof of skiing 118km/h downhill! Plus with the positional data we can see our tracks and trails in real time on a digital map.
