Update on GST and Property Reporting Obligations

The Singapore Tax Authorities have clarified GST and property reporting obligations recently.

In the event that your lawyer remits the GST charged on the sale of property directly to the tax authorities, you are still required to report the property sale in your GST return.

Specifically, you are required to report the sale value of the property (excluding GST) and the corresponding GST amount in Boxes 1 and 6 of your GST F5.

If you have any tax questions, comment below or you can click the link below to arrange for a 30-minute consultation with me.

Renegotiation of the DoubleTax Agreement between Singapore and India

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that India will have to renegotiate the tax treaty with Singapore to extend the capital gains tax provisions of the recently-concluded tax pact with Mauritius.

The amendment to the India-Mauritius DTA provides that short-term capital gains tax on investments in shares through Mauritius will be imposed by the Indian tax authority from 1 April 2017. During the transitional period from 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2019 however, short-term capital gains tax will be imposed at half (7.5%). Full rate at 15% will kick in from 1 April 2019 onwards.

How does this affect your current investment in India via Singapore intermediate holding company? Comment / feedback / questions are welcome.
