In case you missed it...
Jonathan Keleher is one of a handful of people known to have lived their entire lives without a cerebellum. His experiences are helping scientists show how this brain structure helps shape who we are.

'Bluish' Light May Help Alzheimer's Patients Find Bearings

"What I hope we can accomplish is show people that it works, and be able to now translate that to architects, to people doing the building, so that when they designed the building from start they do it right."

A recent and impactful settlement regarding ADA requirements at gas stations/convenience stores.

Here is an excerpt: "The settlement represents a drastic shift in the way gas stations and convenience store chains accommodate their wheelchair-bound and disabled customers..."

I posted a similar - but less focused - article on FB recently....

This article provides more detail about why we should get up  and move  ....and what is happening inside of the body (test groups stand and move/test groups sit - do not change habits/test groups perform additional excercise... etc.)
If people need motivation to get up from their office chairs or couches and become less sedentary, two useful new studies could provide the impetus.

Physical therapy is another (counter-intuitive) way to reduce and control pain.  Move what hurts.  Talk to your doctor about it first ... but consider adding physical therapy to help w/ chronic pain.

"Opioid-based medicines — such as morphine, oxycodone and hydrocodone — were originally designed for acute pain from traumatic injury or surgery."  Narcotics are not as useful for chronic pain, such as from a damaged spinal disc or severe arthritis, Murphy said, because patients in time build up tolerance, which can lead to higher doses and then addiction.  Full article here:

A short article about the work of Community Solutions.  While this effort is in use to strengthen the sense of safety and connection in a rough neighborhood, it is a great idea that can easily be replicated in any community.

"In this class, the seniors say they use muscles they haven't used for years. It makes them feel stronger, confident and less vulnerable."
Improving the lives of the poor can take many forms. One group of senior citizens in New York City meets regularly to stretch their legs and in the process reinvigorate their community.

Reducing Barriers In Our Built Environments: Universal Design Adds Value
Skills
ABOUT US: One of CDAP, LLC’s primary concerns is reducing barriers in design, creating high-quality environments that add long-term value. In addition to keeping an eye out for new technologies and products that we just cannot live without, we find ourselves time and time again - dusting off the old standards. We are applying universal design and sustainable construction methods that will add long-term, permanent value to your property via simple applied research.
