Too often we prefer "timeless truths" and "principles" to the work of God; the former we can file away for the future when it's convenient, the latter can pass us by if we're unprepared or unwilling to receive.

A tradition of any complexity will have some participants that are more informed or articulate about that tradition. Each tradition therefore needs an education system whereby participants (a) discern their need to learn more, and (b) can gain in their knowledge and articulacy.

Alasdair MacIntyre says the agreements that make a tradition what it is are continually redefined through internal & external conflict. Any tradition forgets either of these at its peril.
