SOME LIKE IT HOT

Track temperatures of almost 60 deg C, air temperatures in the mid-30s, a scorching track surface and the demands of the high-speed Sepang circuit combined to make a difficult weekend for the Red Bull Racing team.

Despite an extremely encouraging performance in qualifying yesterday, with Daniel Ricciardo fourth on the grid and Daniil Kvyat fifth, they came home in ninth and tenth.

While the double points score was welcome for the team, both drivers found the performance of their RB11 cars suffering in the heat.
Ricciardo’s race was also compromised by first-corner contact with another car that caused front wing damage and spoiled the handling balance of his car throughout the race.

Disappointed with today’s result but optimistic for the rest of the season, he said: “That was quite tough. It was definitely difficult out there and not really fun. We probably hoped a bit high for the race, after qualifying fourth, but it didn’t work out as we planned. I was ready to fight and ready to try to do something special, but the race was anything but. I found that I couldn’t fight in any situation and every time I tried to, I lost more ground. I seemed to be paying the price for trying.

“I knew we had a bit more pace in the wet than in the dry,” he added, “and we saw that in qualifying. And that combined with the wing damage and some brake problems meant I couldn’t look after the tyres as well as I’d have wanted to. It compromised my driving style.”
Team boss Christian Horner confirmed that a change of brake supplier over the off-season meant the team had not yet fully understood the performance characteristics of the new parts: “It was a very frustrating afternoon,” he said. “There was damage to the front wing with Ricciardo in first corner. And then after running behind the safety car in traffic put the car temperatures through the roof. It meant both cars had brake troubles in the second half of the race.”

Horner said that the team would now have to “engineer its way out” of its current difficulties and he was confident of being able to do so: “We need to get to the bottom of the root cause and address it for the next Grand Prix in China. We need to manage how we got ourselves into this situation and engineer our way out if it. It's very frustrating not to have the pace we had in qualifying, in the race.”

But he remained optimistic of Red Bull Racing quickly becoming more competitive. “The engine drivability was much better here,” he said, “and that was good response by Renault.”

A further insight into the demands of racing in Malaysia, where parts often have to be modified at the track, on account of the high temperatures, was given by Stuart Jones, Red Bull Racing senior composites technician. He said: “Our department is the final part of the process in terms of composites. Our primary responsibilities are all composite bodywork parts, ensuring correct specification, legality and structural integrity of components before they reach the car.

“New parts arrive on a regular basis and it’s our job to make them work on the car at the track. These parts are the first of their type and are not always perfect. The guys at the factory pre-build all the assemblies in advance to double-check everything, but if there is a problem, an update or something that they haven’t had time to rectify, we’ll have to then complete at the track. The problem is there right in front of you and you have to solve it. You’ve got minutes or seconds to play with otherwise you miss the start of the session or the car doesn’t make the first lap in qualifying.”

• The next round of the 2015 Formula 1 world championship is the Chinese GP on April 12

MALAYSIAN GP 2015 PREVIEW

Welcome to Malaysia, already round 2 of the 2015 Formula 1 season and always a scorcher.

An equatorial climate, constant humidity, thunderstorms and the challenging Sepang track all combine to make the Malaysian GP among the hardest F1 races of the year – maybe the hardest.
Drivers have to follow carefully planned hydration routines in Malaysia, to make sure they don’t dry out during the two hours of racing: this circuit presents a physical challenge like no other.
As Red Bull Racing’s Russian ace Daniil Kvyat confirmed: “The best thing about Sepang is that you never feel cold on a lap! It’s an interesting, challenging track with some great high-speed sections, but it’s a tough race and this is why we train so hard in the winter. It’s a race where you see where you are in terms of your physical preparation.”

Team-mate Daniel Ricciardo agreed that the Malaysian GP is a remarkably hard event for a driver: “You do some heat training before the event to make it feel like it’s not as hot, but once you’re in the car, it’s like a sauna and you can’t get our of it.” But just like Daniil, he rates Sepang as a great place to race, thanks to good opportunities for overtaking: “The two basic ones are the two straights that loop back on each other, so the Turn 1 straight and then the last corner. Those are the two obvious ones, but also into the Turn 9 hairpin. That’s pretty good!”

The threat of heavy rain is always part of the Malaysian GP weekend, on account of its equatorial climate and with a 3pm (local) start time this year, a late-afternoon cloudburst on Sunday is a strong possibility.

And when the deluge comes it give the most talented drivers a real chance to shine. “Racing in the wet is a bit of a love/hate relationship,” says Ricciardo. “Sometimes you have a really good wet race and all of a sudden you’re the rain master and other times it just doesn't quite work. Generally I think it’s a really good challenge. If you master the rain conditions it is a very satisfying feeling.”

EXNESS PREDICTOR
Red Bull Racing has won the Malaysian GP three times: in 2010, 2011 and 2013 and this year they’ll be trying to knock last year’s winner, Lewis Hamilton, off top spot. Hamilton’s Mercedes team start as favourite for victory this weekend, after their dominant performance in the Australian GP – but four-time world champions Red Bull Racing are expected to be in the thick of the fight behind them.

This week, the dollar may fall to 117.2 yen

The US Federal Reserve meeting will be this week's key event. On Wednesday, the US regulator will announce the economic forecasts for inflation and GDP growth in the US over the next 2 years. The November decline in the producer price index from 1.7% (y/y) to 1.1% (y/y) in the United States signaled a weakening of inflationary pressures in the world's largest economy. The cold winter in the United States in Q1 2015 can play a mean joke on the US GDP as it did in Q1 2014. The US Central bank is unlikely to take risks and will raise the key rate at the end of Q2 2015 rather that at the beginning.

On Monday, December 15, the preliminary results of the parliamentary elections in Japan will be announced. It is expected that the Liberal Democratic Party, led by current Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will get a comfortable majority. In this case, the implementation of an ultra soft monetary policy in Japan is likely to continue. With the USDJPY pair lowering to the 117.20 support level, opening long positions in the US dollar is worth considering.

In the first half of this week, market participants will learn the latest data on inflation and unemployment in the UK. The expected reduction in both indicators will cause headache for the Bank of England again. According to the forecasts of the S&P agency in 2015, the UK's GDP growth rate will exceed 3% per year. The British regulator will probably raise the rate next year, but earlier than Q3. 2015. During the week, the pound may test the 1.5800 level.

EXNESS and WWF have joined forces to restore rare and vanishing animal species

As part of projects to protect animals, EXNESS and WWF Russia have joined forces to restore the Persian leopard population in the Caucasus and the Siberian tiger population in central Sikhote-Alin. These special projects, which are being implemented with EXNESS' support, will help preserve and restore these subspecies.

Not long ago the Persian leopard was spread quite broadly in the Caucasus and inhabited virtually all of the region's mountainous areas, but due to intensified extermination at the end of the last century its numbers have fallen sharply. It has almost disappeared from Russia. In 2007 WWF Russia advanced an initiative to restore the rare leopard subspecies in the Russian Caucasus. With the participation of the Russian Academy of Sciences, a program was developed to restore (reintroduce) the Persian leopard to the Caucasus.

The program is being implemented by the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology in collaboration with the Sochi National Park, the Caucasus Reserve, Russian Academy of Sciences' Institute of Ecological and Evolution Issues, World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and the Moscow Zoo. The restoration of the leopard population is not only a matter of concern for scientists and public agencies, but also people and businesses who want to demonstrate social responsibility.

The Siberian tiger has met a similar fate. The ongoing human-induced destruction of habitats and the poaching and illegal sales of tigers, and tiger body parts and derivatives seriously threaten the subspecies' fate. The new five-year program to preserve the tiger population at the Sikhote-Alin Reserve began by reinforcing the technical capabilities, expanding the size of the anti-poaching brigade, and monitoring the state of the Reserve.

In 2014 our company also joined the effort to protect and restore the population of rare animals. Thanks to EXNESS' support, WWF plans to continue the restoration of the Persian leopard by creating, in captivity, conditions similar to the natural environment in order to prepare a group of leopards to be released into the wild. In order to develop, animals require not only food and care, but also special structures that imitate the natural landscape and allow the leopards to develop their dexterity and strength. And to observe the leopards after their release into nature, the Fund and EXNESS will purchase special radio collars and equipment to broadcast information about the animals' movements.

EXNESS will also support WWF Russia's work to preserve the Siberian tiger. Specifically, the infrastructure at the Sikhote-Alin Reserve will be improved by cleaning paths for employees' movements and building at least four inspection huts on the Reserve.

EXNESS believes it is important and proper to support wildlife and thus assist the growth of the environment in which we live. EXNESS is proud to contribute to the restoration of the populations of rare animals and to partner with one of the world's largest independent nature conservation organizations.

PRACTICE FOR the Malaysian GP lived up to its reputation for challenging conditions, with ambient temperatures in the mid-30s and track temperatures nudging 60 deg C!

But both Red Bull Racing drivers Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo proved to be cool customers in the heat, recording fourth- and tenth-fastest times in the second practice session for Sunday’s Malaysian GP.

The positions marked a great fightback for the team after a difficult Australian GP two weeks ago and for Daniil, in particular, fourth place was greatly encouraging after his warm-up lap retirement in Melbourne.

He said: “We had a few small issues at the end of the session, but nothing too big and it looks better for us here – we got some good laps today. We’re looking to make some steps overnight and we will keep working, as there’s definitely potential and things are looking better compared to Melbourne. We just need to keep working hard.

The timesheets look good, but it’s Friday, so you can’t read much into that and it’s more important to see what happens tomorrow and Sunday. We will keep fighting!”

Red Bull Racing has tweaked the electronic ‘brain’ of the RB11’s Renault engine, to make it more responsive to drivers’ needs and both ‘Dans’ found the motor to be an improvement on what they had in Australia.

Ricciardo said: “Some things are definitely positive and the bulk of the driveability issues we had in Melbourne are a lot better now. The car was a lot nicer to drive. We got to do a few set-up things this morning, then we had a few issues this afternoon which limited our running. But there are some positives and we got some good feedback from Dany; he wasn’t too far off the pace of the Ferraris so that’s good and encouraging for tomorrow. We are finding improvements. If I see rain before qualifying tomorrow, I’ll probably have a little smile!”

Red Bull Racing has won the Malaysian GP three times: 2010, 2011 and 2013 and it will be looking to open its 2015 account here at a circuit where it has dominated in the past.

Away from the track, both drivers got a chance to indulge their competitive instincts with a squash challenge against women’s world number-one, Malaysian Nicol David.

Dan and Dany stepped into court with her at the Marina Centre near the Sepang Circuit and both drivers proved their competitive zeal in a sweat-inducing battle of the racquets.

Neither was able to vanquish the world no.1, although Ricciardo was adjudged to have performed better against his ace opponent.
“I’ve played squash a few times and I do like my racquet sports,” he said, “but it's more been tennis and table tennis. I think the last time I played was in the UK about four or five years ago. But it’s easy enough to get your eye back in.”

And proving that F1 drivers can’t help themselves when it comes to competition, he added: “I felt I did OK – not on the scoreboard, but I think it was alright! Dany and I played here and it was down to whoever lasted the longest. I narrowly beat Dany and… I won't lie, I'm pretty happy about that!″

GOLD consolidation before the publication of retail sales statistics in the USA

Buy on rebound from 1212 level with 1238 target. Stop loss = 1190.

Reason for the trading strategy

Today at 13.30 GMT, the figures for the US retail sales will be published. The 0.4% (m/m) growth, expected in November will probably provide some support for the US dollar. We believe that near the $ 1212 level, demand for gold will rise again.

EXNESS announces trading volumes to be audited by Deloitte

EXNESS has today announced that its trading volumes will be audited by the world’s largest auditing firm, Deloitte, and that it experienced record trading volumes of US$192,43 billion during September.

Since January 2014, EXNESS has been the only retail Forex broker to have its trading volumes audited by an independent auditor and, moving ahead, Deloitte take over auditing the figures on a quarterly basis.

Victor Masalov, Director of Product Development at EXNESS, comments: “Trust is a critical factor for traders when choosing a retail Forex broker because traders want the reassurance that they are with a broker who will be a transparent and trusted partner. For the past 9 months, EXNESS has had audited trading figures and our link up with Deloitte, one of the world’s most respected auditing firms, offers our clients greater transparency than any other retail Forex broker.”

EXNESS has announced trading volume of US$192,43 billion in September. More than 39,000 EXNESS unique clients traded during the month, with the most popular financial instrument being EUR/USD at US$93,1 billion, accounting for 48% of the total trading volume across all instruments. In second place was GBP/USD at US$44,9 billion, with USD/JPY rounding out the top three at $US24 billion.
Download report here: https://www.exness.com/etc/EXNESS_report_September2014_17_11.pdf

EXNESS has also announced today record trading figures of US$198,78 billion in October. During the month, EXNESS also experienced its highest ever trading volumes in a single day - a record US$11,3 billion on 15th October.
Download report here: https://www.exness.com/etc/EXNESS_report_October2014.pdf

More than 38,000 EXNESS unique clients traded during the month, with the most popular financial instrument being EUR/USD at US$98,47 billion.

Sergey Kochergin, Senior Analyst at EXNESS, comments: “In October we saw a number of significant macroeconomic events that influenced volatility and therefore the attractiveness of specific trades. For example, in the US the minimisation of QE3 led to the formation of a clear growing trend in the US dollar, which traders capitalised on. The increase or resumption of quantitative easing programmes in Japan and the Eurozone certainly led to an increase in trading activity in the Yen and Euro cross rates, with us seeing a near doubling of USD/JPY trades since August.”

Sell on a level breakthrough of 1.2600 with 1.2500 target. Stop loss = 1.2650.

Reason for the trading strategy

This afternoon, market participants will be able to confirm or deny the start of the recession in the euro zone. If the business activity in the manufacturing sector of the euro zone in October drops below 50 p., the euro can be expected to fall to the 1.2600 and 1.2500 levels.
