Last summer I spent a day at Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina and had the time of my life! I walked across the infamous Mile High Swinging Bridge, toured the wildlife habitats, and hiked a short trail. Have you been here before?

My 15 Favorite Travel Photos From Washington, D.C.

I used to spend a week every year for my birthday in Washington, D.C. Each year I would explore a different neighborhood, visit a few more monuments and memorials, and always do something fantastic on my creation day. These are some of my favorite travel photos from three years' of traveling to the nation's capital.

Warm Chattanooga Sunset

How about a nice Chattanooga sunset? I captured this photo on a section of Riverfront Park near the Walnut Street Bridge along the Tennessee River. The sun had already set, but the colors just kept coming for nearly twenty minutes after. Even when I finally decided to pack it in and leave, the colors still filled the sky.

Musette Steck at Living Voice From the Past in Southport, NC

During my weekend in Southport, North Carolina for the 4th of July Festival I met a lot of interesting people, had great conversations, and saw a lot of events, but this one was just about my favorite: meeting Musette Steck during the Living Voices From the Past reenactment at the Old Smithville Burying Grounds. She is so full of life, information, and passion about history.

I captured this environmental portrait of her dressed in period attire at the historic cemetery. I could have spent all day listening to her talk about everything under the sun, but the that sun was slowly melting us both. I can't wait to visit Southport and listen to her again!

Intense Summer Thunderstorm in North Myrtle Beach, SC

I'm an avid fan of thunderstorms, tracking them down as often as possible, but I had never seen one quite like this. As I stood at the end of the Cherry Grove Fishing Pier in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, I just kept gawking at this display, thinking I could have been looking at an erupting volcano. But I wasn't. I was looking at an intense, focused summer thunderstorm beating down on Myrtle Beach just a few miles away. This has become one of my newest personal favorites, what about you?

You can view more of these photos, and more photos of North Myrtle Beach, at my travel website here -
