As of 1 December 2014, personnel with a UNHQ email account are eligible to use the Unite Traveler application on smartphones or tablets at no cost. With Traveler, users are able to easily access their official +United Nations email and calendar from their mobile devices.

The Office of Information and Communication Technology (OICT) is continuously looking at ways to better support a modern UN, and providing staff members with the user-friendly Unite Traveler free of charge is one example of OICT’s commitment to helping colleagues accomplish their work as effectively and efficiently as possible.

#UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force of the UN Charter in 1945. Since 1948 United Nations Day has been celebrated within the organization and observed by Member States as a public holiday. In this time of multiple crisis we see why the United Nations is needed more than ever.

"At this critical moment, let us reaffirm our commitment to empowering the marginalized and vulnerable. On +United Nations Day, I call on Governments and individuals to work in common cause for the common good." - Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

Everyday buyers dispose of food shipments because of cosmetic reasons (i.e. damaged cans or bruised produce). Technology has been applied to several supply and demand issues. For example, logistics sites like +Foursquare and +Yelp help restaurants sell empty seats and +Uber uses routing algorithms and payment systems when servicing customers. Why can't a similar #technology be applied to save food? A similar technology would show restaurants where to donate food to charities rather than dispose of it, thus bridging gaps in the supply chain. In honor of World Food Day, encourage local restaurants to donate to charities. Help bridge the gap.
