First of all I'd like to thank you for your podcast, I know it's hard but enjoyable work, and I applaud you for your efforts.

While I don't use LM myself, I have recommended it to several people. who are now using it for their day-to-day environment.

However, I don't blindly recommend LM, I typically listen to the person and try to determine their level of expertise and day-to-day needs before making a recommendation to them.

Which brings me to my point. I use Gentoo and have for a long time now. I use it for my day-to-day and my corporate needs, workstations and servers.

I find it frustrating and disconcerting that you show a lack of respect to Gentoo, Slackware and Arch in general. Maybe it's any distro that not LM (not sure).

I can assure you that, in my opinion, Gentoo is the best distribution in the Linux ecosystem (particularly for my needs). I hear all the time how "it's hard to configure", "takes a long time to update", ... None of which is true.

The first time I built a Gentoo machine it took less than 2 hours, most of which was simply reading through the documentation and downloading the portage tree. I can now build a Gentoo box in well under and hour, approximately the same time it takes me for LM (includes storage, network, etc... configuration).

I have also taught other how to create and configure Gentoo workstations and each person I have gone through it with all come out of the experience with the same conclusion -- "That wasn't hard" and "Wow what a powerful distribution".

Granted the Gentoo distribution is not for everyone, and I wouldn't recommend it blindly for everyone.

I'm not asking you to review Gentoo, Slackware, Arch (all of which are rock solid and great distributions), and of course I'm not asking you to switch. What I am asking is you give these long running, stable, standard, and great distributions the respect they have earned and deserve.

Thank you

+Scott Newlon +Rob Hawkins Guys, I support your decision on posting an episode every two weeks, but did you really have to announce the decision on episode 197 and not wait for the milestone episode 200?

I would like to hear from +James Coyner on episode 200.

Take care.

+John Taylor I caught SELF in episode 196.  I didn't mention it in 195 because, being in June, I thought it was a little ways out.  But to your point, I need to do a better job promoting my new (adopted) home state.

You should really apply for Google sponsoring. You made me want to buy an Acer C720P now. 😉

Great show. I hadn't heard of speedtest-cli before and it is a great little tool. Especially useful since my ISP is notorious for increasing the bandwidth when connected to speedtest.net.
