This skirt combo is very simple, and repeats. Yet it's the one that seems hardest for students to grasp! It's always the simplest things that are most difficult, right?

"Dancing improv together is an amazing discipline. It takes mindfulness, body awareness, and an ability to shift one's focus from specific to diffuse."

The +PRISM Belly Dancers of Fredericksburg VA  have a lot planned for their next HAFLA - solos and class routines, fun Tribal segments, and favorite tunes. Here's how they're using TOBD:

A fast-slow-fast song like the rocking "Sahara Caravan" (Desert Knights) is great for fast combos with cymbals AND slow moves & Sword, all in one song. This is the number they used recently in RVA at Tribal Cafe.

They're also using the Chorus Line as a backup for taking turns solo-ing (yes, SOLO improv!) to catchy rai songs. While the Chorus Line holds down a hypnotic groove in back, each dancer takes a turn sharing her sparkle out front.
Solo improv gives a taste of Raks Sharki (of course no TOBD moves for solos!) right in the midst of tribal improv. It blends together really well!

AND the new Tribal Fan Veils are coming out again, everyone loves them and they look so pretty!! Good times ahead! lilililililiiiiii

Yes! Thanks to the instigation inspiration of Anthea's student Pixie Fae, Tribal Fan Veils is now a "thing". Nine combinations are in the process of being group tested, and should be ready to debut in performance shortly!

Anthea writes about a street performance with her group in Fredericksburg VA.
Tribal improv works great in so many situations - it formed the large part of their sets, as they even kept the Chorus Line going through the solo improv songs. Having the dancers use the "Reverse Flat Figure 8" made a soothing and hypnotic background for the soloists.
