It is worth amplifying that the protections the Senate just voted to strip aren't around collecting or even selling, but requiring customer permission to sell their info to third parties. Still, EFF is right that this is a big loss for customer privacy. There is still time to act, to call reps in the House and try to kill this bill.

Mike Loukkides presents an intriguing though experiment. I don't have a strong grasp of the philosophies he touches on but I don't think that or an understand of optimization as an application of computing is really necessary to enjoy the ideas presented.

The author makes a good case that even if you use measures in your browser to keep yourself more private online, your DNS queries can reveal just as much about what you are doing. Assuming the instructions in the last part of this article are right, Linux users are in luck, having what seems like a simple way to reduce online footprints with little effort. I'll have to give this a try.
