Down at the beach, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, The Strand House rises elegantly and iconically above the breakers.  Like in an oceanfront home, friends become family and strangers become friends.

Owner Michael Zislis and Master Chef Neal Fraser present a colorful menu of traditional dishes expressed with fresh and exciting interpretations. We call it, “modern heirloom.” Here the freshest produce is hand-selected from local farms. Every dish is created with complex flavors, subtle textures and luxurious finishes.

Come on over. Our door is open.

I chose the Strand House as the place to propose to my girlfriend and we couldn't have had a better experience. I mentioned what our special occasion would be when I made our reservation. Our hosts, bartenders, and server all were expecting us and went far above and beyond my expectations to help make it a wonderful night. The food was outstanding, but the extra effort put forth by the staff really helped make the experience memorable. I wish that I could remember everyone's names to thank them personally here, but we were completely wrapped up in our own little world that night - thank you so much for making that possible

My friend came with me on a Sunday (of all grocery-shopping days) and we were greeted by someone (we later learned his name was Al) who checked on us during our shopping to make sure we were finding everything okay. We confessed to him that we had found the bathroom filthy which was disappointing, to which he acted extremely concerned and empathetic and insisted that is "not Trader Joe's standard!"

This place is really uppity minus the great food. I only come here for the nightlife now as they have some pretty good DJ's that come in and spin on the weekends. As far as the food goes it was overpriced and not up to snuff for food that is so expensive. The restaurant has one of the best views in all of Manhattan Beach.

The beer was good the food not so. I ordered fish and chips, the chips were ok the fish was like wet slimy things, they were not crisp at all it came with tarter sauce, balsamic vinegar and lemons and ketchup. I was so disappointed when i picked up some fish and it was limp and soggy from the first bite.

WHAT THEY DID WELL: Food was wonderful. Great location. Terrific design of the private dining room "The Wine Cellar". Service at the restaurant was very personable and on-point. Sam (the server) did an excellent job with my group. WHAT THEY CAN IMPROVE: Trying to plan the event was more challenging than I would have liked (calls/emails not returned) and having to resolve an unnecessary room fee (after meeting our minimum) proved challenging as well. Returned phone calls or emails would have eliminated this difficulty. OVERALL: The product and service proved better than their internal communication and planner service. Also to note, the restaurant is quite noisy so may not be the place for a quiet dinner. There was a glass door to block out some of the noise from the private dining room.

I can only speak about my experience at the bar which is the downstairs bar area where you look at the beach while you dance the night away. The wait time for getting into the bar was relatively short, but you have to make sure you are up to the dress code (fellas-that means collared shirts and at least boat shoes, and no hats), but its a pretty nice bar by the beach. The drinks usually run around $12-$15 so it can be a bit pricey but the dance floor is always packed Saturday night with young and creepy old.

Are you looking for sweeping views of the Pacific while you dine on fine cuisine? Perhaps feeling the cool breeze off the ocean while you sip a cocktail? If so then The Strand House is your place to go. West facing floor to ceiling windows let you have an incredible view of the ocean - if you want something magical reserve a seat in time for sunset - it's incredible. Split into a few sections, upstairs if your dedicated restaurant space with outdoor seating. FYI, the outdoor seating is not covered - if it's a hot day prepare for the sun. Downstairs is a restaurant/bar, complete with street side seats. The decor is refined, subtle, and lends itself to the menu - also refined, with a diverse wealth of delicious options. It's hard to go wrong here, however one quick tip - there are seats for two very closely situated by the windows. Unless you want to be listening into someone else's conversation, while having a waiters but rub against your table - ask for another seat.
