Very Cool

Sister company to Siri brings personalized search

Trapit, since its launch last night, has gotten a ton of press coverage (here's a list: https://plus.google.com/111091089527727420853/posts/dgbkaUxWPJs ). What is it? It's the sister company to Siri and offers a new way to search. Here's a video with the founders. You can try it here: http://trap.it/

Like Siri, Trapit was born from the $200 million CALO Project (Cognitive Assistant that Learns and Organizes). CALO was the largest artificial intelligence project in U.S. history. It was funded by DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency), the Department of Defense’s research arm.

Good coffee, friendly service, nice atmosphere. You have to park on the street, the trick is to park on the side streets near it and not Hertel so you don't have to pay for parking. It has a fireplace which is nice to sit next to in the winter months. Lots of patio seating for the summer.

Even better than the trucks, smaller portions that are higher quality and at a price point that lets you sample a bunch of different flavors. Awesome atmosphere, fast service, and a good bar menu. The Taco Factor is not to be missed, it's a local gem.

Coffee and Bagels Sandwiches are good - better than Tim Horton's.

A hidden gem in Buffalo. This is a non-profit focused on teaching people how to make video games. Video Game creation is more than just software development skills, it includes: art, music, writing, and design of game mechanics. The all volunteer team at the space teach weekly classes on the fundamentals of game building and they hold quarterly "Game Jams". Game Jams are where 30-50 people show up and have a friendly competition to build games in 72 hours(similar to a hackathon). If you're in to video games or have ever considered building a game you owe it to yourself to attend an event and become part of this community. They have a meetup group and a facebook group that announces their events, you can also use their co-working space for a monthly membership fee that provides you a discount on taking classes there.

Our favorite mexican place downtown. I live in Phoenix for a while and their food is similar in style and authenticity to what I ate in the south. We love the Fajitas and they have good drink specials. Walking distance from the Medical Campus and the best traditional mexican on Allen.

Hands down my favorite coffee shop in Buffalo. Great atmosphere, great coffee, great food. They even serve beer now. This store helped revitalize the Grant & Lafayette area - it was the foothold that established all the new commerce on those blocks over the past 5-6 years. I recommend the "Slams" (Breakfast Sandwiches) - their buns are baked fresh at the shop, the one with pesto is a personal favorite. My one piece of advice is that if you're really hungry, get something out of the bakery case to munch on while you wait for your food if they look busy - "good food takes time". They don't have the fastest kitchen, but the quality is almost always top notch.

The guy who hands out the food at the drive through here in the mornings is probably the best fast food worker I've ever met. Treats everyone like family, I've went there to grab a coffee on a rough day just because I knew my 5 second interaction with him would make me feel better. This also has one of the nicer Tim Horton's interiors if you're planning on eating in.
