It has been estimated that 69 percent of Americans age 35 to 44 have at least one missing tooth, and one in four over the age of 74 have lost ALL their natural teeth.
Many options exist to replace missing teeth but only one – dental implants – provides the feel, function and appearance of natural teeth. Read more about the benefits of dental implants over other treatment options.
Ancient dental implants have been traced back to around 600 AD, when tooth-like pieces of shell were hammered into the jaw of a Mayan woman. Thank goodness for contemporary dentistry!
Contemporary dental implants, which have been in use for many decades, have been proven safe and effective.
Usually made of titanium, a dental implant replaces the root of the missing tooth root and provides a strong and sturdy foundation for one or more replacement teeth or crowns.
Teeth restored with dental implants can't get cavities! An replacement tooth, or crown, doesn't decay like a natural tooth, but you still must brush, floss and care for it and your surrounding natural teeth and gums in the same manner as natural teeth. Regular professional cleanings and dental check-ups also are essential.
Dental implants are the only dental restoration option that preserves and stimulates natural bone, actually helping to stimulate bone growth and prevent bone loss.
It is important to do your homework and seek a well-qualified, experienced dental implant dentist and treatment option that will meet your long-term functional and cosmetic needs. Implant dentists credentialed by the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID) are experts and have demonstrated training, competence and documented success in implant dentistry, and have met national standards of education and practice in oral implantology. Read more about questions to ask and how to find an implant dentist.
In 1951, a small group of dentists who were successfully placing dental implants came together to form the AAID to share their knowledge on the practice of implantology. The Academy is the first professional organization in the world dedicated to the advancement of implant dentistry. Committed to top quality patient care and to research, education and excellence in implant dentistry, the AAID's more than 4,000 members include general dentists, specialists, individual practitioners and members who are part of a team.

Dr. Jerome A. Guttman
I provide exceptional, yet conservative dentistry that strives to exceed your expectations. I enjoy teaching my patients about how dental services can improve the quality of their lives. You will be shown your digital x-rays and photos so that you can understand what I see. You will have all the time you need to have any questions answered, as I believe that an informed patient is a more confident and relaxed patient. After hearing your needs, I will explain all your dental options, and together we will determine the best treatment plan for you. I will then take all the time necessary to provide you with the gentlest care possible. And when I complete a successful case and see the happiness and smiles that appear on my patients, it makes my day! For in my office, your complete comfort and total satisfaction are my top priorities.
I graduated from Michigan State University in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree, and from the University of Detroit School of Dentistry in 1980. I then went on to complete a General Practice Residency at the Sepulveda VA Medical Center. I had a long-time practice in Montebello before deciding to relocate to beautiful Playa Del Rey to be closer to home. I am a member of the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, and the Los Angeles Dental Association. I was born in Detroit, Michigan and moved to California in 1980. I am happily married with a beautiful daughter. My hobbies include photography, roller blading and working out. I also enjoy watching college football and basketball.
