SAGWAN: another new wave indie film from the Philippines.  This film has a powerful universal story line.. the sexual coming of age of the three characters in the menage a trois.. I think this film could be best marketed as a universal dramatic film versus being a gay film on account of its haunting portrayal of the human condition.. the sexually-explicit gay elements can actually be toned down to play up more the story of the human condition or the gay scenes can be left as they are but definitely play up  just a bit more the story of the three characters trying to find themselves.. i think this film has great potential for global distribution if it doesn't have it yet.. with some reediting and reshoot.. to clarify more possibly the story of the sexual coming of age, specially of the main character and his best friend.. i think the girl's story is pretty much well-developed already. the flashbacks of the main character is just a bit confusing and could possibly be replaced with better story-telling ideas to advance to the story of the main character trying to find himself, rather than just getting bombarded by those flashbacks which seems to be there for just easy story-telling convenience...it is during these flashbacks that are the key moments that the dilemma of the main character can be increasingly revealed.. a lot of those can be possibly achieved in the main character's monologue.. which is pretty effective..

SAGWAN a brilliant indie film from the Philippines.. Just saw this film by chance last night!! Beautiful Film!! Love the directorial touch!! Light and sure-footed and poetic.  Mise en scene's great..mesmerizing and even sensual images and scenes that stick to your consciousness long after watching this film. Great cinematography.. the play with light and shadows in those key scenes were beautiful and very effective.. great ensemble acting as well.. featured stars are convincing.. you sympathize with them.. loved the simple nuances and sudden introduction of key story elements.. a lot of excellent gradually unfolding story-telling touches/scenes.. even though there are still some rough story telling edges that could've been polished before production.. there's some spotty areas in scene establishment and development but it's easy to forgive and forget those.. the menage a trois ending is utterly poetic.. yet the last shot of the father with the sagwan is mean and brutal and really disturbing-- a vision of hellish menace just as you've fallen in love with the characters and sympathize with their plight and meaningful discoveries.. this is damn powerful writing and directorial execution.. i hope all you guys keep making films.. however low-budget they are.. keep developing story ideas and shoot them.. you've got a pretty good ensemble group here.. you see intelligenc love of filmmaking craft in the production of this film..
