The traditional village of Nanggala', in the North of Toraja, Indonesia

Toraja houses, called Tongkonan are shaped like a boat and are intricately carved and painted with Toraja symbols. They are either used as rice stores or lived in. Tongkonan are big status symbols for Toraja and so unusual and elegant that they themselves are a tourist attraction.
