Totally get what your saying and even though you posted this back in 2012 its still A MASSIVE controversy on both camps. I am a producer, I write Electro House and that ilk and I use Reason. I never did learn to DJ (manual beatmatching) because I am always to busy learning how a snare should sound or sound designing a bass etc. So for me Ableton allowed me to perform live (my own tracks and others) in a manner that made sense to me. OF COURSE I could easily set all my clips to 1 bar quant and then trigger each one on the launchpad, fade in and out on my nanokontrol but that is real boring (and cheating from my perspective). So I decided that I should create mashup sets. I am not as good as Madeon but it certainly adds that element of error into live performance when you start dealing with 4 and 8 bar loops and mashing them together to compose something new, especially when your bringing it all in on 1/16th quantization cause then you got to start counting as every musician in the world has to do. The point I make is that you may not call it DJing but like DJing it has to be learned in order to be done right and I am constantly looking for ways to add new live elements into my sets. Such as chopping up a lead melody into individual 1 note shots to play that melody back in new and interesting ways live. At the end of the day anyone can rock up to a set of CDJ's and press play on one deck, play that track out, hit play on deck 2 and cross fade, no effort required. The same can be done on ableton but to use it right in a way that makes it a performance tool means that you need to delve into its abilities and become an advance user to a great extent. The same is true for any artistic medium. I am not a traditional DJ but I have great respect for those that can beat match. It is a dying skill just as playing a live instrument has been superseded by writing tracks on a laptop. I played Guitar for years, then gave it up to produce. In conclusion I would say that with anything in life it is all down to the effort you put in. I find using Ableton the intuitive platform for my performance outlet. Maybe I am more of a Mashup artist (not really sure actually as I know DJs happily mash the shit out of tracks onstage w/ CDJs), either way it takes a level of knowledge that you cannot just get the first time you open up Ableton with no idea what you are doing.

For those sayin this guy is an idiot and that he harassed the cops.....wake up! He filmed them to make sure they could not violate his rights. The cops did all the harassment. 5 - 6 cop cars surrounding him ( 1 lone biker) plus 2 officers asking him the same set of questions. Questions that could be considered irrelevant to why they decided to stop him initially. But I'm the idiot for saying the cops are public trustee's serving us so they have no right under actual law to do this, All they got is corporate imposed legislation which we are not contracted to. Yet they assume we are contracted and bound by the system and will use force to make us comply if necessary. Experienced it first hand in my own Country. But we should all just do as we are told and let our freedoms become even more erroded in order to satisfy the lunacy and psychopathy of those in power.

Startling evidence was revealed today that the National Security Agency broke the law and ignored privacy protections thousands of times in each of the years since Congressional leaders expanded the agency’s power in 2008.
