Finally getting a grip on what it takes to make this G+ to work.
1. You should have circles for posting to and circles for reading from. This means each friend should be in at least 2 circles
2. Most of what you post should be posted to circles, hopefully by subject area.
3. If your freinds share more than one interest with you, put them in more than one posting circle. (Homeschool and food allergy, for an example)
4. Your reading circles should be sorted by how often you want to read their posts. This can help you manage your time. Your top reading circle should be people you don't want to ever miss a post from, and you want to read as soon as you can. A middle level could be for ppl you don't know as well, who are less interesting to you, or who annoy you by posting everything to public. (hint: I am not intested in arts or crafts). And ppl who you aren't sure you ever want to read a post from (maybe they post a lot of things counter to your values, but you still want to include them on your Homeschool posts) can be in your lowest level.
5. You cannot sort your reading groups by topics. Anything your Homeschool friends post will show up under the posts of your Homeschool friends, not just their Homeschool posts.

Please try to filter your posts! You will actually have more people reading your posts if you don't post, say, your knitting posts and your sports fan posts in the same way.

I see what you're saying but again I think it is solved when G+ implements group functionality, assuming they do it right. I'm guessing you only care what these homeschooling strangers have to say about home schooling and don't want to see anything else they post.

In other words, what you want is to join groups where all the group members interact with each other about that one topic, and it doesn't spill over into the G+ use that is for your relatives, friends, and acquaintances.

Currently, your desire to connect with large groups for specific topics has the undesirable side effect of attracting many strangers to circle you, because G+ isn't set up right for groups.
