Three strikes and they are out...that's right could have written this two other times, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt...No More. Their "advertised" happy hour is just a suggestion, or maybe it's the staff, who obviously really don't care. Looks like the new management was able to infuse money, but nothing else. I was really hoping that Penn was going to come back strong since I loved it when it was under the original owner, but I have gone there for the last time. Glad there are other options in Pittsburgh.

This is my third time at Penn Brewery. I visited yesterday, July 31, at 5 pm. I ordered the marinated flat iron steak. The waitress came back about 5 minutes later saying that they ran of steak the night before. She suggested the salmon. When she came back for the order, I asked her where the salmon was on the menu. She said that no one told her that the salmon was taken off the menu. I finally ordered the balsamic grilled chicken. The service was very slow. She asked me about dessert. I asked her if I could look at the menu. She said the desserts weren't on the menu. Well they are. I ordered the chocolate raspberry cake. The food was good. The service was terrible. The waitress didn't know the menu. She was embarrassing to the establishment. I have second thoughts about ever coming back. I did purchase Penn Dark to take out. This is good beer. So the beer is good, The food is good. The service in-between is lousy. And the steak should have been replenished earlier in the day. There is no reason that it should have taken off the menu that evening. There is only 11 entrees on the menu.

Last night was my first time at the Brewery. My date and I went there for my birthday dinner becasue I love German food. The service was great and musically the band was good. We barely finished our pretzels and our dinner was served. However... the food and the noise levels were horrible. I had to yell across the table to talk to my date and finally gave up trying to have a conversation. I couldn't even hear the waitress. There's no reason the band had to be that loud especially on a wednesday night. I was not happy with the Polish Hill dish. The sauerkraut wasn't good, the perogies were tasteless and the kielbasa was okay. Overall I feel cheated for a birthday dinner and it was not worth the price of the plate. Never going back.

Went to Penn Brewery with a large group of people. The decor and vibe is old world charm, however it is quite loud. The acoustics leave a lot to be desired. First, let me just say that my husband and my in-laws are Germans. I've been to Germany many times. That said, I know German food. A few folks at our table ordered the saurbraten. The portion was incredibly generous, almost ridiculous really. However, saurbraten is not supposed to be made with pork. It's a beef dish, so I was a bit confused about that. My cousins were quite happy with the dish. I ordered the rouladen, and while it was flavorful and tender, it was a bit dry. Other than that, which was minor, it was quite tasty and very authentic. My 16 year old son, who is quite the foodie pointed out that his schnitzel was tasteless. I tasted a piece and it wasn't seasoned in the slightest and tasted like the oil in the pan. He was very disappointed. All in all, I'd say it was okay, nothing to write home about.

The beer was good, and everything else was lousy. The staff was disinterested, inattentive, and unfriendly. No one was willing to help anyone who wasn't "their" table or customer; multiple people had to leave their tables to come up to the bar to get drinks when no one came to help them. I watched one man - who had a beer - with his friend - who was clearly waiting for one, and when an off-the-clock employee came up to the bar and was served before the customer waiting, both of them walked out. I watched another man come up to the bar and ask for a beer, only to be clearly ignored by the person standing there, because they were far too busy ringing up their check. Also, to be clear, it wasn't even busy: the staff were just uninterested in going out of their way to help anyone - the customers or each other. Additionally, the entire place really could have used a good cleaning, and the staff left the bar messy. I like Penn Brewery's beer, but the brewpub was an extreme disappointment. Will not be back.

Loved the atmosphere. Friendly wait staff. Great food. Liked their beer sampler best. Prices were a bit stiff for us, but since we are poor folks, anything over $10 if price to us. We will come back. We loved it.
