Ep 102 - Gaming Away From the Table
+Sean P Kelley and I just wrapped up our recording of ep 102 where we (mostly me as I think I talked way too much this time) talked about gaming away from the table. Those "downtime" emails, community posts, and private sessions/events that can happen away from your group's usual game session. It'll be interesting to see what folks have to say once they listen to us.

We also had some really good listener feedback and insights - Had some of my ideas tossed about a bit and I think I landed in a new place after those :-)

+Phil Vecchione - you're the person I thought of when I mentioned the need to have a fellow GM with diceless experience on the show ;-)

Shout out to +Christopher Sniezak from +Misdirected Mark Productions in doing a great job with this interview.

Some game designers have epic stories of their own. Odyssey’s which range decades and cross many games, genre’s and companies. Today we have one such person. From Iron Crown Enterprises to TSR, then WotC, then his own Malhavoc Press, back to WotC, then a brief stint creating video content with geek seekers, before taking Kickstarter and the Gameosphere by storm with Numenera, then the Strange, No Thank You Evil, the Worlds of the Cypher System, and now Invisible Sun. He even managed to fit in a faux feud with the Dungeon Bastard. This man, who has lived the story which I’ve only barely hinted at, is Monte Cook. Enjoy an hour with Monte in this episode of the Lounge.

The warehouse at the store is incredible. I mean, seriously amazing. And I've never seen their main, offsite warehouse, but I'm told it's many times larger and just as full.

A bit of serendipity had me picking this book up last weekend, apparently just in time to enjoy a new MM Productions podcast.

I love it when unknown wheels in the universe make cool things happen :-)

Nearly finished reading through this. Think I'm going to have to give this a test run at some point in the near future. Could be a great system for my Murder City setting.

QCC - I am Coming!
Next month I'll be heading to Queen City Conquest! Got my flights booked today and, thanks to the very gracious +Christopher Sniezak, I have a place to crash and someone to help get me to the con :-)

What will I be doing while I'm out there? Other than "gaming stuff" I have no idea :-)  If nothing else I'll get a chance to hang out with cool gamers, meet +Phil Vecchione, Chris,  +Bob Everson+Mark Knapik, +Tom Flanagan, and a host of others.  Should be a hell of a good time.

+Timothy Stone it was the modules over the rules system. The rules system seemed to be a bit of an improvement over the original. Still d100 based but more granularity. The story and modules just didn't feel like the Warhammer I knew and loved. The biggest thing is that the dark humour seemed to be gone. It was all chaos and bad asses. No more rat catcher with a three legged dog. No more goblins noosed up at the castle as a door bell.

Added to that the modules were linear. One of the things I love about 1e Warhammer is that it taught me to be a sandbox GM. There was no linear plot, there was a series of events that were going to happen unless the players did something. The adventures were based on a timeline. On the 4th of Sigmarzite the Demon will be summoned, unless the players stop it.

The modules also seemed to favour/force direct conflict (I think because the characters were more super heroic). I ran the first module with 1e veterans and they just watched the ritual unfold, as they thought they were weak ass peasants and had no chance of trying to interfere with such things at this point in a campaign, so sat watching in terror, which again the module wasn't prepared for.

It just didn't fit with that I thought of as Warhammer.

Now 3e really turned the system inside out but the modules and the fluff was back to the 1e flavour. Once I got used to the new system I fell in love with it. Here was the Warhammer world I loved with a very cool story based system.

Right in the middle of my on-line Trail of Cthulhu kick off session with +Sean P Kelley, +Wayne Humfleet, +Kevin Lovecraft, and +James Glorioso I lost power at the house. Must have had something to do with that unspeakable creature they spotted.

I just need to figure out what I'll run. I'm thinking Action Movie World (a crazy Powered by the Apocalypse game) and Fiasco. I need to do some play-testing first.
