This is the best tutorial on Blend-If I have ever seen.  I've struggled with understanding it's usefulness for years, and this tutorial finally makes sense.  Excellent coverage of the technical guts of how it works, and even better that you provided such a clear and pragmatic example.  *Thank you*

I've been shooting with the 85 F/1.2 L for a few years and it is hands down my best lens.  It blows the 50 1.4 out of the water, mostly because the 50 1.4 has the softness issue that you mentioned in the related series.  Examples of the 85 1.2 can be found on at http://www.stevenerat.com/blog/.

I absolutely love this lens.  As long as you can control your body sway and breathing while shooting wide open, then you can actually use it at F1.2 to 1.4, but beware at 6 feet the DOF is probably only about 2 inches at most. If you're shooting on the fly then you should expect to have to overshoot because many images will be lost to slightly out focus, but worth it when you see the results where focus is nailed.

I would mention that it has substantial chromatic aberration (magenta/cyan glow) around any specular highlights, but Lightroom does a very good job minimizing that.  Also this is a portrait lens suitable for more controlled photo sessions. The autofocus moves at a glacial speed, so it would not be suitable for weddings or events (Ryan Brenizer recommends the Sigma 85 f/1.4 because of its faster focus speed).

So aside from these couple of issues to work around, it still is my favorite lens.

I grew up fishing Loch Raven in the 80s and 90s.  It's illegal to fish at the dam now, as it was then, although that never stopped us since the dam itself was our favorite spot.  Never once among the many hundreds of fish caught in the early morning hours there did I ever once catch a catfish there.   Right at the dam in the Fall you could catch crappie there faster than you could reel them in, and the rest of the year was the same with blue gills.   Huge carp love to hang out at the dam, usually 18 to 36 inches or so.  Bass and pike there as well.  Definitely no catfish.

When you think business first ColdFusion remains a great consideration.

Regarding the healing brush not aligning the way the clone stamp aligns, notice that when using the healing brush (7:41) that the option "Align" is not checked, but when moving to the clone stamp (7:54) the "Align" option is checked.  Aligning the healing brush will produce the desired effect.

Awesome! I've been following Craig on FB for a good while because of his outstanding work, and it's great to learn about him as a person.  Very cool.  Funny that he mentions Emily Soto and Amanda Diaz, which are also on my best inspiration list (I've watched every BTS video from Emily at least twice, while taking notes).  Craig's work reminds me of Jaime Ibarra as well.  Hope to see more from Craig!

Opening G+ again after a year is an experience not unlike opening your attic door and finding people living in there.

Had a great time with a local model yesterday building new images for her comp card.  Had a hair and makeup artist in the studio and we did 4 outfit changes, 2 HMUA looks, and 5 different sets, so lots of good stuff coming soon!

This past weekend I was fortunate to attend a +Brooke Shaden workshop just a few miles from my home.  Here's some of the independent work I created there.

With a local outfitter I learned to ice climb here. It was a great experience with enough of a challenge to make it interesting for a novice. Beautiful hike in from the parking lot.
