Very interesting...

I am hoping to find someone who can help me with a long-time mystery. My third great-grandmother is Elizabeth Gilchrist (1787-1850, and married to John Cannon). She is referred to as grand-daughter of Major George Gilchrist of Accomac(k) County, Virginia. I have found information regarding his ancestors as well as his role in the Revolutionary War, but nothing regarding spouse or issue. An Andrew Gilchrist is listed as his heir, but not referred to specifically as his son. Apparently Andrew (married to Laney Middleton) sold the 5,000 acres bounty land, never again to appear in any official records.

So -- Is Andrew Gilchrist the son or only son of Major George Gilchrist? Is Elizabeth daughter to Andrew? Or did George Gilchrist have another son who was father of Elizabeth?

I have been hoping to travel to the area to visit and  to research these questions, but have been hampered by chronic medical issues. As a result, I would consider enlisting professional help to solve this dilemma.
