The benefits of moving yourself

1. You save money
2. Your friends and family may help
3. You may have sense of self accomplishment and pride, knowing you did it yourself or with help of others
4. You can do a move at your own pace and not be bound by a moving company schedule
5. If you don’t have many items, a Ute can be a great idea for a move

Loading your Ute

A little bit of planning will make your Ute driving experience go a lot smoother.  Take time to organize your move and loading so that the heavier items are towards the cab and the lighter items are towards the back of the bed.

This centered weight will allow the Ute to drive more comfortably and consistently.  Too much weight at the back can cause erratic motion when fast stops occur.

Don't forget to tie your items down so there is minimal shifting when quick stops occur.  You can control your starts so make them slow and even for minimal shifting of bed contents.

Don't Need a Ute.... Hire a Trailer

You can save money if you have a car or truck with a strong enough engine to pull a trailer.  These are handy add ons for added moving capacity.  If you have a hitch, just stop by and pick one up and get your move done in half the time.

S&S has trailers with and without a cage.

Speeding Causes Accidents

Most of us may go over the speed limit in our cars without thinking twice about it.  But when it comes to a Ute full of your belongings excess speed can be a dangerous thing.

You may be used to the distance it takes to stop your car when you are going fast, but a Ute full of heavy items takes a much longer space to stop.

Not to mention how a fast stop can shift the load and cause a big accident.

As a rule of thumb you should double the distance you need to stop when you are drive a Ute full of items.  It's only common sense and it can save you a heap of headaches later on.

Don't Back Up...Until It's Clear

Many of our Ute rentals go to people who have not driven one in a while so they don't realize the many blind spots behind them when the Ute is full of boxes or anything else blocking your view.

Our advice is to take added care, or better yet, get help when backing up with a full load so you can see everything behind you.  Don't run over some of your favorite belongings by not checking first and backing second.

Tie down your load...or Disaster may loom.

How many times have you driven down the road behind a car or truck with a load that looked less than secure!  If you're that guy then you better have your insurance paid up because if something on your truck flies off and hurts someone, you're liable.

S&S has tie down equipment available and we highly recommend you tie down your load.  Wind forces can be strong when you are driving on the highway and anything loose is bound to fly away.  It won't take you long and your safe load is better for you and the rest of the drivers on the road.

Here is a tip on finding a ute when you need it!

Most of us are free on the weekends so that is when we hire a Ute.  However if you don't plan ahead then you are likely to be disappointed if the Ute model you want isn't available.  Steve's advice is to plan your move during mid week where the selection of Utes is much more plentiful.  If you can take a vacation day and do your move Monday-Friday you can most always find the Ute you love.

I served as my own delivery person!!

When is the last time you bought something large and were influenced by the sign that said FREE DELIVERY.  Oh great you say I don’t have the hassle of getting this new mattress or television home.

So you buy and it is delivered.  BUT, do you really think the delivery is free.  Of course not. retailers are not in business to give away free services.

You can bet anything that the cost of delivery is hidden in the cost of the item you just bought.  In fact, many retailers used delivery and pick up services as a profit center.  They make big money off you by charging more for an item because they have the delivery services.
Next time you buy something big, ask about a discount if you pick it up and take it home yourself.

You will be surprised at how much you can get off an item for doing it yourself.  One such customer, Bryan M, saved $100 on a fridge because he picked it up and took it home himself.  He only paid $40 to rent his Ute, so that was another $60 in his pocket to party with.

All it takes is asking and you will find that many retailers are happy to offer you savings for taking the hassle on yourself and doing to delivery.  Hiring a Ute is hassle free and quick.  Use a Ute to pick up and move items in a local area quickly and effortlessly.  S&S Ute rental has trolleys to help you move quickly and save your back.
