When walking down 10th street, my dog always tries to pull me into this store. I guess all those visits here where she got to pick out her own bone ingrained nothing but positive associations. (Smart dog.) The staff here is beyond friendly and helpful, and they are always so accomodating when it comes to placing any special orders. One of my favorite parts of this store is the adorable rescue dog that is always there-- he is just too, too cute. I love this store, and love giving them my patronage as I hope they stick around for a long, long time.

Omg, I love Varga Bar for any meal, or any drinking occasion. The staff is usually very sassy, and always extremely knowledgeable about everything offered on the menu. Their food is delicious (and at this point I've consumed most of the menu), and their drinks are varied-- but awesome. (One of the best Bloody Mary's I've ever had.) Even though this is a small establishment, it is still always on my list of awesome Philadelphia locales to take out-of-towners to. Now if I could only get in to Mercato... ;)

My skin is naturally on the very fair side, and I was shocked when a months ago at a dinner party my annoyingly perfect sister pointed out, quite loudly, how many "sun spots" I had. What?? I never noticed any sun spots?! Indignantly, (after dinner so that SHE wouldnt know I had cared about her comment,) I sequestered myself in the bathroom, to fully check myself out. It was weird that even though I DO look at myself everyday, I never saw what everyone must have seen: blotchy brown spots all over. Not quite dark enough to be considered freckles, these big brown blobs were overlapping each other like crazy at the tops of my cheeks, with smaller versions blanketing my nose. For someone who is always made fun of for being ridiculously pale, I was shocked to see how damaged and discolored my skin really was. With sun-spots on the brain, suddenly wherever I looked all I could focus on was how clear everyone else's faces were. Probably somewhat unfounded, but I became really self-concious about my spots, and was fixated on getting rid of them. My friend had been going to Cosmopolitan Skin Care for acne scars, which she was getting lasered off. The effects these laser treatments were having on her acne-scarred skin was incredible, and I thought maybe lasers could be something to get rid of my brown spots too? I scheduled a consultation with Naomi, and while she was examining my face, she described what could be done: a few BBL (broadband light) sessions, and once the spots were properly zapped, they would start to just exfoliate off. Naomi was confident that my spots could be treated, and although I was skeptical about something that seemed too good to be true, I arranged my first BBL treatment. I'm not going to lie, that laser hurt! But, the pain lasted for just a second... immediately after the treatment, the most obvious spots seemed to be darker. Naomi explained that the spots that were treated would continue to darken up, and then just flake off. She said that the whole process would take about one to two weeks, and oddly enough, during this period I was too fascinated at what was happening on my face to be self-concious. For the first few days, the spots continued to darken, to the point where it looked like i had Oreo crumbs on my face. Shortly thereafter, everytime I looked at myself, there seemed to be fewer and fewer Oreo crumbs. (Most drastic on my nose.) Through just one treatment, it seemed like 75% of my spots were gone, and it was so easy? A new laser convert, I called Cosmo Skin Care to schedule my second treatment. Naomi was happy with my results, and told me that the most superficial damage was what had been eradicated with the first treatment, and the subsequent treatments would be reaching the damage that was a little bit deeper... Two more treatments later, and I am so happy with my skin I feel like telling everyone about what I used to look like, so that they can notice and admire my perfect skin. (Sorry if this sounds obnoxious.) The process was not nearly as pricey as I had feared it would be, as Naomi was great about working with me regarding price. I recently was having dinner with my family again, and I could feel my sister (who doesn't know I had these treatments done) visually assessing me. Towards the end of dessert, she finally asked me what kind of foundation I was using bc my skin looked so clear and even. I told her I wasn't wearing any make-up (kind of lie, I was wearing some bronzer) and she looked all confused. Then, since we were on the subject of appearances, I mentined that maybe she needed to get some more sleep, as the lines around her eyes were clearly indicating how tired she was. Ok, I know, kind of a rude thing to say, but, that's sisters for you... However, as a peace offering at the end of the night, I slipped Naomi's card to her, and told her to check out their Botox options... :)

Even though I'm only 30, preventing any signs of aging is already a big concern. (I would much rather do small preventative steps now, as opposed to having do a major overhaul later.) Thanks to the treatments I've gotten at About Face, I feel like I now have the best looking skin that I have ever had in my life. Small amounts of Botox and Juvederm help keep my face free of wrinkles and creases, and the BBL laser has erased any trace of brown spots (from sun damage). The staff is very concerned about educating, so I feel much more comfortable with the way I now handle my skin, and the best part is that I am now religious about my sunscreen application-- which will surely help ward off any future lines, wrinkles, and spots. My results, and expereinces, have all been excellent, and I would recommend About face skin care to anyone who would like their skin to look better.
