Burns Environmental Services Performs Remediation for
Illicit Drug Contamination Site

Burns Environmental Services was contacted to perform a remediation for Illicit Drug Contamination. An unfortunate landowner found that their home was being used as a PCP manufacturing facility. Testing at the interior of the home confirmed drug residue throughout. The back and side yards had also been used for dumping of illicit contaminants.

Burns Environmental Services worked with the owners and the district attorneys office to property remediate the contamination in order for the house to be sold. The entire interior home was remediated a from top to bottom and 20 truckloads of affected soil were removed from the property. The entire project was completed in less than 8 working days. The work was completed ahead of schedule. All parties were very happy at the prompt and efficient work allowing for the sale of the property to close on time.

Shows like Breaking Bad and The Wire have brought more awareness to the danger of illegally manufactured drugs.  These shows illustrate that drug labs may turn up in houses, apartments, sheds, trailers, motel rooms, and even motor vehicles.  The government's health and safety department have deemed that the illegal manufacture of psychoactive drugs, primarily methamphetamine, is a major health and safety issue while the disposal of illegal drug lab waste pose a significant environmental threat to the community.

Contaminants at these sites may be highly volatile organic solvents and semi-volatile organic compounds, to highly corrosive inorganic acids and bases.  Because of the dangers posed by drug lab waste it is important to hire a licensed and certified hazardous removals company like Burns Environmental Services to safely decontaminate and clean these affected buildings.

Since 1995 alone, DTSC's Drug Lab Removal Program has funded the removal and disposal of 18000 illegal drug labs and drug lab waste.

With the acoustic ceilings cracking at the Hollywood Plaza Apartments, Burns Environmental Services was called in to safely remove and dispose of the affected ceilings.

Burns Environmental Services' Project Manager, Joseph Meade, was called in by a General Contractor to abate the acoustic ceilings at the Hollywood Plaza Apartments.  They have scraped 8 of the 153 units and will continue to work on each unit until they are complete.  BES is scheduled to scrape another three units this coming week and looks forward to safely removing and disposing of the remainder of the asbestos ceilings in a time efficient and cost effective manner.

Thanks Burns Environmental Services for your hard work and dedication to the project.
