(This is a followup to my post: Is One of Our Open Source Heroes Going Closed Source?) In the wake of MakerBot’s Replicator 2 announcement, there has been a lot of discussion and questioning about the open source status of the company’s offerings. The MakerWare software used to control both the new printer and the original Replicator is available for download now. It is clearly closed source, even though it contains some open source software, and...

One-bit ADC? Using a single flip-flop Jeri Ellsworth explains the principle behind ADC. This represents a simplified version of Delta-Sigma modulation.

Totally need to do a class on the buspirate.  Or something.  I had 2 people asking me when were going to have something other than an Arduino class.

Last night's Open House at +FamiLAB turned into a CNC cleaning party.  Now you can see what we're up against... about 20 years of deferred maintenance!

Room was clean and serviceable, reasonably priced and what I've come to expect for the area. Air conditioning was a portable unit but did the job. Walking distance to "downtown"

Good location and reasonably priced for an overnight stay in Santa Cruz. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Breakfast wasn't great but got the job done. Terrible coffee though.

Very cool, casual place to have drinks and a bite to eat. The wine selection is extensive and the staff very knowledgeable. Wine prices are retail even in the restaurant so it's excellent bang for the buck. My fiancée and I usually drink California reds and Andres was able to recommend an excellent French wine that we never would have tried otherwise. Pizza is excellent. While we played it safe this time we both definitely want to come back and try some of the more adventurous pies. Looking forward to our next visit!

It was serendipity that brought us together. We had been searching for a photographer and my fiancée and I independently found Marko. When we compared notes, we were amused that both of us loved his aesthetic and he was at the top of our respective lists. We were truly blessed to have Marko shoot an engagement photo session for us in Split, Croatia. He was a joy to work with, putting us both at ease throughout our shoot. It was as if we were long lost friends reunited at last. He is not only a gifted photographer, but a gifted storyteller and documentarian. We both would recommend Marko without reservation.

Pizza was excellent. Wine was reasonably priced. Lots on the menu and I'm looking forward to visiting again.

Excellent burger. Juicy and a great beef taste on a soft bun. Took a few minutes to get our food during the lunch rush but work the wait.

Creative apps, killer burgers, ice cold beer. Went here for a lazy Saturday afternoon lunch. At the recommendation of our waitress we gave the Asparagus Fries a try. The very light breading and salt was a perfect combination with the tender asparagus while the alioli on the side was the icing on the cake. The manager came by with a complimentary app of their fresh made kettle chips with a Gorgonzola dressing topped with bacon, green onions, and tomato. Out of this world! I love a strong blue cheese but this dressing is nicely balanced and doesn't overpower the rest of the flavors. Finally our burgers arrived perfectly cooked. Nice, dark tavern atmosphere and the staff was friendly. Looking forward to coming back and trying some of the other entrees, or maybe pop in for happy hour.
