A Missional Mistake
I am human,  and not a very good one. The truth is that there is not a day that goes by that I do not see how broken I am.  I have the ability to make a gigantic mess even out of the best of my intentions.  My missional ideals it seems, have been no strange...

The Problem With Truth
To know the problem with truth we should first examine the definition: the truth  : the real facts about something : the things that are true : the quality or state of being true : a statement or idea that is true or accepted as true          The problem is...

A Liberal, an Alien, an Athiest, a Homeless Man, an Addict, a Lesbian, and a Schizophreniac Walk to the Communion Table
What sounds like the beginning of a very offensive and inappropriate joke is actually a beautiful weekly occurrence at Holy Ground. People from very different paths, opinions, and faiths are finding unity in something as basic and essential as food and dri...

The Forgotten
I talk to people about homelessness often. It is a conversation that is a natural occurrence because I am passionate about this subject, and it is something I intend to bring up in my discussions or when I insert myself in the conversations of o...

Death and Resurrection
This past Easter season reminds me of one of the most significant axioms of following Christ; rebirth.  My Southern Baptiscostal origins would have said that this transformation happens with a mechanical prayer, but my journey of faith has shown me tha...

How It's Made
Recently there was  a 2 and 1/2 hour debate concerning the subject of creation vs. evolution.  I am actually a professing Christian evolutionist (I committed Christian career suicide years ago so I eagerly await the hate mail), so obviously I was...

Beauty in Ashes
Mortality, repentance, humility, charity, and fasting.  These are the themes of Ash Wednesday. Lent is one of my favorite seasons in the church. A season when we are all reminded of how frail life really is.  It is a time where we can gather ourse...

A Mile in Their Shoes...If They Even Have Shoes
Last night was the first time in years that I have been able to help with our Tuesday night community meal. It was so refreshing and metaphorically recharged my batteries. Lately my attendance has been scarce since I have been having to work as m...

Civilization: The Original Sin?
Regardless of ones view of Genesis I think we can clearly see a theme in Eden. A land that is abundant in resource and a stress free lifestyle that requires nothing but nurturing and enjoying the abundance of Earth. This was paradise and mankind e...

Baldness! Recently I was growing my hair out, and patches of shiny skin began
to peek through my formerly luscious curls. It was an emotional experience. Not
because I have a problem having short/no hair but because the shape of my h...

The American Nightmare
"Done... I am done!  What is the point?!  I am getting no where! Not again! Are you kidding me? Dammit! When will this end?",  These are the emotionally intense thoughts swimming about in my mind every day for the past week and 1/2.            Recently I lo...

I was a rising worship leader in the contemporary movement. After years of feeling empty I am now a writer and leader of a movement of missional communities known as Commission. My life's ambition is to see American Church culture deconstructed so that THE CHURCH found in scripture can emerge.
Introduction
I am at a point in my life where I am asking one question. What would it look like if church was no longer a location? My life's ambition is to see this dream come to fruition.
Bragging rights
I am an accomplished musician and vocalist. I have been in ministry for the last 11 years of my life. I have a beautiful wife and 3 amazing children.
