I'm a 50 year old distance athlete who started Bikram a year ago. Caveat: it's the only yoga I've ever done. That said I find it to be a life-changing practice. My arthritic neck and lower back are in a state where I've said goodbye to my Chiropractor. I go four times a week. It's not easy but it's also what you make of it. I feel relaxed and happy and fit. There are haters in every imaginable facet of life...I HIGHLY recommend Bikram yoga.
