THE MEDICAL STRUGGLES OF SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

By Rosaura Torres

I have spoken to many, many women in regards to their health issues which they continue to have because of the abuse they suffered from domestic violence. Many of us suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, hypertension. diabetes arthritis, cancer, drug abuse, alcohol abuse and much more.

It amazes me how some people may think that they no longer see the scars of the abuse we suffered. But it’s more than that, is just not the bruises and the marks and a bloody nose or the bloody head even after words. As I share my memories telling my abuser to stop hitting me in my face because one day he would cause me permanent damage. I begged and pleaded. I cannot help but think sadly about the women who begged and pleaded their abuser to stop to stop hurting them.

I can speak for so many who survived domestic violence. I truly understand their pain from the medical aspect of the abuse they suffered. My sister survivor Clara Colon is struggling with cancer. I am struggling with diabetes, PTSD, arthritis anxiety and many more ailments but I’m not just the only one. There are so many of us and it’s just not women it’s men too and the children who survived abuse.

How I wish I could just wave a magic wand and remove all the pain and suffering that so many have gone through and continue to go through. To those who truly cannot understand the whole concept of domestic violence and what it does to each and every one of us, and how we are affected physically mentally and emotionally. We want to feel that were going to be okay, we want to know that people truly understand how horrible the plague is with domestic violence.

I personally have witness the behavior of our abusers lawyers in court. When I see a human being attack another verbally calling us suicidal, bipolar, evil, vindictive or state that we will kidnap our children. Do many abusers realize the damage they have caused to their family?

So I say to all of you, carefully watch what you say and do to a survivor. Your negative and horrible words do cut like a knife and the physical abuse has damaged so many of us. I often say “I am a little broken but not dead.”

DIRTY DEALING DOG
Would Donald Trump's decisions as president be based on what is best for America, or on what would keep the cash flowing to him and his family?

I accompanied my daughter because she heard the same advertisement on the radio....First we sat for several hours waiting for a sales person. For a 2013 mini van with 41,000 miles and no alarm, cloth seating and the vehicle fired back, would you believe they wanted $23,000 dollars for the van. Shame on this dealership and your false advertisement. I must applauded my daughter, because her friend advised her Buddy Matt, to have her older brother George, run the car through Kelley Blue Book and the car was only valued between 18,000 - 16,000. I am so proud of my daughter....Mami did not raise no dummy!!!
