IMMIGRATION UPDATE: MAY 2015

1. Starting from 1 July 2015 DIBP new applicants will be affected by significant increase in Visa Application Charges ( for more information: http://www.immi.gov.au/pub-res/Documents/budget/VAC-increases-fact-sheet.pdf )
2. Changes to Medicare arrangements for sub 457 visa holders: The following passport holders are still eligible to enrol with Medicare under the reciprocal healthcare agreements in place between Australia and that country’s government.
New Zealand, United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, Sweden, Netherlands, Finland, Italy, Belgium, Malta, Slovenia, Norway. The following passport holders has been excluded: USA, France, Canada.
3. DIBP launched a national campaign to investigate work visa scams. The campaign will initially assessed up to 100 visa sponsors alleged to have received unauthorised payments in return for sponsoring individuals on 457 visas.
4. DIBP has also stepped up its investigatory activities of unrepresented individuals applying for sub 457 visa without legal representation. Under Australian law, an individual providing migration advice must be registered with the Office of the Migration Agents Registration Authority (MARA). This ensures quality migration advice is provided and conforms to industry standards.
The above changes had been introduced due to release of the 2015 Federal budjet last night, more changes expected to be introduced by the 1st of July 2015.

"START-UP BUSINESS and sub 457 visa"

New budget and DIBP welcome new business and new entrepreneurs in Australia:
a) English score has been adjusted to 5 overall score (IELTS)
b) Business sponsorship approval will be extended to 18 months
c) Tax incentives

Do not fall into trap of entrusting your business setup to a migration agent. Migration agents are trained to provide a migration advice only, they are NOT Solicitors/Lawyers and NOT legally trained to neither advice nor setting up complex business structures!

It is crucial to get legal advice in relation to your proposed new business and migration from a Solicitor/Lawyer who holds current NSW Legal Practicing Certificate and MARA license (Migration Lawyer), specialising in this field.
