I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle.” “Now what have I done?” said David. “Can’t I even speak?”

Some surprises here, a non Christmas release date and a new Indiana Jones. I thought that after the reaming the last IJ received that would be the end of them (even though I personally liked it).

Why Can't We Be Friends
http://bible.com/events/205237
====================================

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 NIV
Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.
http://bible.com/111/ecc.4.9-10.NIV
---------------------------
Friends can be a blessing or a curse.
Relationships are a key element in our lives.
We need to set boundaries with our friends so we can ensure we are good starts of Jesus's message.
When you get to close to people walking away from God, the influence can be bad for your future.
Our loneliness leads us to seek acceptance even from people who aren't good for us.

---------------------------

Power of Friendship: ACCEPTANCE

Proverbs 13:20 NIV
Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.
http://bible.com/111/pro.13.20.NIV

WISDOM:Your conscience should light up when your core group is not moving in the direction you want your life to go in.

---------------------------
Where there is proximity there is influence.
---------------------------

WISDOM:Your conscience should light up when you realize that you are not being true to who you are when you are with them.

WISDOM:Your conscience should light up when you feel pressured to compromise.

SAMSON: Go where you shouldn’t have gone – see what you shouldn’t have seen – take what you shouldn’t have taken and now…lose something that you can’t afford to lose

WISDOM:Your conscience should light up when you hope those who love you don't find out where you have been or who you have been with.
---------------------------
Doubt in a marriage is very destructive. We should never be somewhere or do something that we don't want our loved ones to know about.
We can be friends of unbelievers, but we don't have to participate in the sinful behaviors. We can still be there to help them when they fall from there sinful behavior.
---------------------------

Proverbs 13:20 NIV
Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.
http://bible.com/111/pro.13.20.NIV

PRAYER:God, give us the wisdom to know what’s right and the courage to do it!

Going Deeper:
Community Group Discussion
Week of April 23, 2017

1. Friendships are important. Yet it can still be difficult to develop great friendships. What are some of the common challenges people face when it comes to developing friendships?

How do these challenges change as we go through different life stages?

2. We all have different desires and capacities when it comes to making friends, and those tendencies seem to show up even when we are kids. Which of these statements best describes your experience with friends when you were growing up?

I had one or two best friends I did everything with.
I had a circle of friends I hung out with and we did everything together.
I had a lot of acquaintances, but not many people I would consider friends.
I had friends from a wide variety of different social circles.
I liked being alone, so I had a limited number of friends.
Other ______________________________________

Did your experience with making friends change as you grew older? If so, how?

Digging Deeper
1. The truth that people need friends to grow is reflected throughout the Bible. A very clear statement of the value of friends is found in Ecclesiastes 4:9-12. After reading the passage, write down as many benefits of friendship that you can find.

Can you think of any other benefits you get from having friends?

Assuming all relationships ebb and flow, how could a list like this create unrealistic expectations of what friendship involves?

2 You may have heard it said, “To have a friend you need to be a friend.” The Book of Proverbs has a lot of practical wisdom about how to be a friend. Jot down what each of the following verses says about how to be a good friend.

Proverbs 12:18

Proverbs 17:9

Proverbs 17:17

Proverbs 18:13

Proverbs 27:5-6

Which of these attitudes or actions comes most naturally to you? Which is most challenging for you?

3. A great example in the Bible of a strong friendship is the story of David (of David & Goliath fame) and Jonathan, the son of King Saul. Despite stressful circumstances, they were able to encourage and support each other through tough times. As you read about their relationship in the verses below, what specific actions, attitudes or principles can we learn about developing strong friendships?

1 Samuel 18:1-4

1 Samuel 19:1-7

1 Samuel 20:12-17

72 - Valued Eternally
Valued Eternally - Mark 12-14
http://bible.com/events/199545
====================================

Mark 12:13-17 NIV
Later they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus to catch him in his words. They came to him and said, “Teacher, we know that you are a man of integrity. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are; but you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. Is it right to pay the imperial tax to Caesar or not? Should we pay or shouldn’t we?” But Jesus knew their hypocrisy. “Why are you trying to trap me?” he asked. “Bring me a denarius and let me look at it.” They brought the coin, and he asked them, “Whose image is this? And whose inscription?” “Caesar’s,” they replied. Then Jesus said to them, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.” And they were amazed at him.
http://bible.com/111/mrk.12.13-17.NIV

When we were created…we were created in God’s image. If we are made in His image….live like it.

---------------------------
Jesus instructs that we recognized the authority on earth and in Heaven. In the end the authority in Heaven will rule over any authority on earth.
By disrespecting the earthly authority, we disrespect the Heavenly authority.
---------------------------

God Doesn't Count Like We Do
---------------------------
Or giving should come from the heart, not for recognition or self righteous pride.
Giving should be out of sacrifice not of our wealth. Giving from our abundance is easy, giving when we don't have it is sacrificial and reveals where our heart is.
It is not to say we shouldn't give from our abundance but it should be given humbly in reverence to God.
---------------------------

Mark 12:41-44 NIV
Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”
http://bible.com/111/mrk.12.41-44.NIV

Matthew 6:1-4 NIV
“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
http://bible.com/111/mat.6.1-4.NIV

If we are grateful to have our sins forgiven, we serve Him out of gratitude. If we understand that He is God – He is Lord – we serve Him out of faith trusting Him with every aspect of our lives.

---------------------------
When we withhold out giving, especially when we don't have it, we tell Good we don't trust Him with our lives but we trust ourselves. In doing that we idolize and worship ourselves above God.
---------------------------

Mark 14:3-9 NIV
While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head. Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly. “Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me. She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial. Truly I tell you, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.”
http://bible.com/111/mrk.14.3-9.NIV

Sacrifice Has Eternal Value
---------------------------
Sacrifice for God is more valuable than anything on earth.
Humble sacrifice shows that we honor God as the one true God. It is the essence of the struggle throughout the Bible of everyone wanting to take God's place.
---------------------------

Jesus Moves In As Lord or He Doesn't Show Up At All
---------------------------
We either let Jesus be God in our lives or we don't let Him be anything to us.

Community Group Discussion
Week of April 9, 2017

1. Often we are confronted with Government, Local, School or Business authorities that we may not agree with. When you think about specific policies….did they go against your faith in Christ and Biblical teaching or against your personal views?

HOW SHOULD WE RESPOND AS BELIEVERS IN SUCH CIRCUMSTANCES?

2. Pastor Mike stated that Jesus did not come as a means to our end, but as OUR END. Discuss this thought among you. Does it challenge much of our praying? How do we need to change in order to live out this truth?

3. Simple lesson from the Widow’s Gift….do I give out of GRATITUDE – DUTY – OR FAITH? What difference does it make?

4. The sacrifice of the nard by Mary was extravagant! Judas’ statement concerning waste was on the surface accurate, but his motives were not correct. Society often criticizes churches and ministries concerning their spending on buildings, schools, etc. as being wasteful suggesting that the money could be better spend on the homeless, etc.

How, as Believers, do we respond to this criticism?

5. What did Jesus mean when He said, “the poor will always be among you?”
