Very interesting to see Elinor Ostrom's principles for successfully governing a commons restated in the first person...

And in case you were wondering about what's happening with drones... an SF account on GigaOM.
Summary: In September, a man crashed a quadcopter on a busy street in New York City. Last month, I accidentally shot footage of the inside of someone’s apartment. Drones cause problems, but the technology is too exciting to write off.

So many big technology driven changes still in store over the next few years. The sensor revolution is upon us. Like most revolutions - it won't all be good or bad.
Summary: Connected devices can generate gobs of data, but if we’re going to open it up we’re also going to the need the context that will make it meaningful.

I have launched http://www.experibit.com to help people evaluate the effects of Fukushima on the West Coast of North America. On the site skilled citizen scientists can post their experimental findings of becquerels per kilogram of Cesium-137 in fish and radiation in micro-sieverts per hour.

The problems the site tries to address are 1) lack of comparable and comprehendible evidence 2) lack of trust in government and institutional reports 3) lack of updated data over time.

You can participate, get updates, or critique the experiment at http://www.experibit.com

Went to a fantastic frame drumming workshop with Glen Velez over the weekend. Amazing musician and teacher. Here's one of the youtube videos that does his playing some justice:
Glen Velez - Blue Tambourine Solo

And here's a favorite video of Glen and his wife Lori Cotler who is vocalizing the south Indian drum language Konnakol:
Lori Cotler sings rapid-fire vocalizations with master drummer Glen Velez

It's good to have heros that you can meet.

In case you are wondering what is going on with the Federal Aviation Administration's regulation of domestic drones:

"You may not fly a UAS [unmanned aircraft system] for commercial purposes by claiming that you’re operating according to the Model Aircraft guidelines (below 400 feet, 3 miles from an airport, away from populated areas.)  Commercial operations are only authorized on a case-by-case basis."

...

"Flying model aircraft solely for hobby or recreational reasons does not require FAA approval. However, hobbyists are advised to operate their aircraft in accordance with the agency's model aircraft guidelines (see Advisory Circular 91-57). "

...

"In the 2012 FAA reauthorization legislation, Congress told the FAA to come up with a plan for “safe integration” of UAS by September 30, 2015. Safe integration will be incremental. The agency is still developing regulations, policies and standards that will cover a wide variety of UAS users, and expects to publish a proposed rule for small UAS – under about 55 pounds – later this year."

I'm thinking about the next generation of web frameworks and finding lotus.rb quite interesting.

I have recently been putting to use clean code insights from Uncle Bob and working with interactors on a few Rails projects. This has lead me to reconsidering Rails. Happily I'm not alone in this quest to decouple business logic from the persistence and view layers they use.

I love this mind blowing video of Yogesh Samsi playing tabla.  I suggest enjoying it over a cup of tea:
