Two years after I declared Windows RT dead on arrival (with 110% certainty) Satya Nadella has finally signed the death certificate. Still waiting on my smart visor prediction.

Prediction: full-face visor trend converges with mobile tech to create a sort of wide-screen Google Glass. Instead of smart phone zombies we become smart visor zombies. And nobody has to look at anyone else's ugly mug again.

Has anyone found any worthwhile online courses in UX (user experience) and UI design?

Someone needs to explain the new Surface tablets to me.

First of all, people keep saying referring to it as if it's one device, but from what I can tell Win8 RT is no more closely related to Win8 than iOS is to OS/X. So in fact they're making two completely different devices in similar-looking cases.

I am roughly 110% sure the RT version will be dead on arrival. Their most plausible customers are people buying it by mistake, thinking it will run their Windows apps. I have yet to hear anyone, anywhere, express interest in writing or porting an app of any kind to Windows RT. So it's an iPad, plus a slightly more convenient keyboard, minus roughly 650,000 apps. And, not for nothing, also minus the cachet of Apple and the nerd street cred of Android.

It may be quite nice, but so are Windows 7 phones. So good luck with that.

I see no reason that the Intel version won't sell at least a few. But it's not really a tablet. It's a notebook with what will turn out to be a mostly unused touchscreen. Developers aren't going to put any effort into writing real touch apps when 99% of their user base will be using something other than the Surface, and won't have a touch screen.

I really have to worry about Microsoft's ad people sometimes. Before "our browser doesn't suck anymore" it was "buy one of our phones because it doesn't do all that fun stuff an iPhone does." And before that it was "Windows PCs: for people who can't afford an Apple."

Apple seriously needs to nuke this iTunes shit and start over.

"It is impossible for a cube to be the sum of two cubes, a fourth power to be the sum of two fourth powers, or in general for any number that is a power greater than the second to be the sum of two like powers. I have discovered a truly marvelous demonstration of this proposition that this margin is too narrow to contain." -- Pierre de Fermat

"I’d like to create an integrated television set that is completely easy to use. It would be seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud. It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine. I finally cracked it." -- Steve de Jobs.

I feel like I should contact all these people and warn them about Rick Astley.
