The new $6mil/year Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing at U.C. Berkeley.
The Simons Foundation plans to announce on Tuesday that the University of California, Berkeley, will be the home of a new center that combines computing theory with fields like biology or economics.

SIGACT Awards Student Scholarships for the Turing Centenary Celebration

SIGACT has awarded scholarships to enable 7 student members to attend the ACM Turing Centenary Celebration. The scholarship are awards of $1000 to each student to support their expenses in attending the meeting. The meeting takes place in San Francisco, June 15-16, and will feature 34 Turing Award winners. (see http://turing100.acm.org)
