Absolutely incredible, and almost hard to believe that it isn't CG. Be sure to check ou the video here: http://www.tecca.com/news/2011/03/15/saturn-fly-by-video/
Science fiction movies have spoiled us on high definition views of our planetary neighbors, but real-life photographs with equal jaw-dropping potential are exceedingly rare. That's what makes NASA's a...

John Gruber on the resignation of Steve Jobs as CEO of Apple.
Resigned. Wednesday, 24 August 2011. Reading around the web an hour ago, looking for confirmation of the then-minutes-old news that Steve Jobs had resigned as CEO, I repeatedly encountered and bridled...

I have to agree with Gruber on this. We all knew it was coming but just did not want to talk about it.

In a move not entirely unexpected, Steve Jobs has resigned as CEO of Apple. His letter says he plans to remain an employee and should take on the roll of chair of the board of directors with his intention for Tim Cook to become CEO, should he be accepted by the board. I'll assume for now that this was due to his ongoing health issues. ** Apple now confirms Tim Cook as CEO and Steve as CoB.

I would actually argue in favor of the fact Steve Jobs changed the world. Arguable the most difficult thing to do in engineering is to organize a large team, stay focused on end-users and usability of the products/software being produced, and to keep the mindset that not everything needs to be built from the ground up (i.e. use the technology that is already sufficient for your needs...linux, touchscreens,etc.).

The end result is a set of engineered products that actually SHOULD be taught to software and electrical engineers as examples of a better and more successful ways of tying it together. I agree the real ingenuity of Apple is packaging, styling, and making things user-friendly....and that is a real task that should be every bit as important as software and component innovation (in the production of consumer products).

That being said, NASA has a much different mission and really is focused just on innovation of hardware and new core technologies, while usability isn't as big of a deal because the people operating the equipment are highly trained intelligent people. The make up for their usability faults and lack of shiny single-button devices by putting scientists who can fly jet aircraft through a rigorous training program... Manufacturers of consumer devices don't have that option, though it probably would make the world much more tolerable for people like us!
