Did you know that toothbrushes date back to ancient Egypt? Well, they didn’t exactly use the toothbrushes we know today. Instead, they chewed on soft sticks to clean their teeth, and used a sharpened end as a toothpick to clean food from between their teeth! Is your child’s toothbrush as effective as it can be? If they are brushing with an old, or dirty toothbrush, then they just aren’t benefitting from brushing as much as they could be. #DentalFAQ Check out these tips to keep their toothbrush fresh and strong:
1. Rinse thoroughly in cool tap water after brushing, washing the bristles clean of all debris.
2. Never wash their toothbrush in a dishwasher, since this may damage it beyond repair.
3. Replace their toothbrush every 3-4 months, so that your child brushes with functional bristles.

It’s time to start brushing your baby’s teeth as soon as tooth number one erupts. To brush your child’s first tooth, use a small toothbrush with soft bristles that’s designed for babies. Use a smear of toothpaste (about the size of a grain of rice) and gently brush the tooth. Additionally, use toothpaste specifically for small children. #DentalFAQ

Did you know that cavities are the most common chronic disease in children, and are nearly entirely preventable?
5 ways to help keep cavities at bay:
1. Brush every day, twice per day for two minutes at a time.
2. Floss once per day, and make sure to get between every tooth!
3. Avoid or limit sugary foods like candy.
4. Limit sugary juices, even if they are 100% juice!
5. Limit citrus fruits that damage enamel.

While kids and adults with dental appliances should avoid all gum, not all chewing gum is created equal. Look for sugar-free chewing gum and especially gum made with xylitol, a natural sweetener that’s actually been shown to reduce cavities!

Need help cutting back on sugary soft-drinks and concentrated juices? Try freezing an ice cube tray of 100% fruit juice. When you're ready to drink, make a glass of water and include one of your juice cubes! #ToothLove

There are so many different types and variations of toothbrushes that it can be confusing when choosing a new one. We recommend a soft bristled brush with a small head to make it easier to reach those teeth way in the back. Whichever one you choose, just make sure you're using it for 2 minutes twice a day! #2min2x
