Thought I'd try getting hold of a solar cooker...as I think we have so much sun over here in Australia, why waste energy when there's a great giant oven outside...

I decided to buy one rather than make one as I wanted something that would last and be a bit more professional looking...

um...not that quickly....at the moment (winter is coming...)
If I could get a good 5-6 hours of full sun (60Ah an hour...max output for my regulator and wiring...and solar panels)
That will be 300A (where 50% would be 500A) I don't intend to go below 80% if I can help it...so means I can get it all back the following day and make the batteries last longer...

overcast morning...hence only 250W still pumping 18A into the batteries...the monitor on the right is telling me how low the batteries are...102A to full...

My system at the current time...
(still need to add 2 more "Circuit" breakers to make sure everything is safe)

4 x 190W Solar Panels
4 x 250Ah (C10) - (1000A's of Gel Deep Cycle Batteries)
Outback FM60 Regulator
Enerdrive Battery Monitor - also controlling a SS Relay (to stop the batteries discharging below 50%)
Generic 5000W Inverter (not used beyond 500W)
Projecta IC5000 Battery Charger (to top out the batteries once in a while)

Really impressed with the ...
http://www.enerdrive.com.au/elite--epro-specifications

I now have added a relay output from the Alarm Port and it automatically
switches the Inverter off if the battery reserve drops below 52% or voltage drops below 11.5V - saving my batteries dropping below the 50% mark (longer life)

My system is not connected to the grid at all...(batteries) - its only running a few items currently...when the sun comes up again it will start filling the batteries and the relay will re-engage when it hits a higher point...so if its a Fridge then as long as we keep the door closed, we should be ok...Eventually I might get a small generator, that can keep the fridge on line if we have bad sun for a few days...and charge the batteries at the same time...

I do have a charger that I can run (from the mains) - I might get that to switch ON if it "drains out"

Great fun create all this - will have to take another picture shortly...
