Read BEFORE discussion. A difficult thing to do on the topic for many people, I realise.

There are some decent new encryption set ups in development, and Edward Snowden’s leaks have been a great marketing push for people to adopt end-to-end PGP. But there’s also quite a lot of snake oil sales schtick going on as well. My main beef is that both the solid solutions and the more dubious ones repeat the mantra: “encryption is hard” followed by how they’re making it easier.

Now hear this: End-to-end encryption is not that difficult. That said, I've put together a list of questions for when you go around kicking tyres.

Parliament is rushing through greater powers to GCHQ to force your internet service provider, your mobile phone provider and your phone service company to keep more records on you, record your data and quite possibly actual content of your communications with others.

These are the same people who had no understanding of the Tempora programme, or how GCHQ operates and have no clue as to what they're endorsing.
