Last fall I had the opportunity to attend the +ShiftCon Eco-Wellness Social Media Conference. It was such an amazing weekend. I got to meet many of my favorite ‪#‎green‬ & ‪#‎wellness‬ bloggers, ‪#‎NonGMO‬ & safe food advocates and sustainable brands. ShiftCon is a social media conference that was born out of the idea that together we can create a profound impact on the world around us. We can literally shift how we eat, raise our families and our impact on the environment. It is organized by +Leah Segedie of +Mamavation. I am already getting giddy about this year's conference and it's not until September!

Tomorrow there is going to be a Facebook Party about Shiftcon, how we can all work together to shift the market. Even if you're not a blogger or brand, you should join this Facebook party. We need all of us if we are going to change our food system and other products to put ‪#‎health‬ & wellness front & center.

Lab test results obtained by the group examined 42 products, 26 of which contained lead and/or cadmium at levels above what the state of California considers safe. The brands that tested positive for heavy metals included Hershey’s, Mars, Ghiradhelli, Godiva, See’s, Lindt, Whole Foods, and Green and Black’s.

Some of the chocolate tested contained lead at levels up to 5.9 times California’s “safe harbor” level—or the maximum allowable daily limit—for reproductive harm, and found cadmium at levels up to 8.2 times the limit.

We’ve begun to expect unusual flavors like chili, salt, and lavender in chocolate. But there might be another surprising addition to your Valentine’s Day sweets: heavy metals. According to the consumer health watchdog As You Sow, there’s a good chance that chocolate you buy may contain lead or cadmium. Lab test results obtained by the... Read More

Michigan’s bald eagles are among the most contaminated birds on the planet when it comes to phased-out flame retardant chemicals in their livers, according to new research.

It is unclear what, if anything, the flame retardants contaminating Michigan's bald eagles might mean for their health.

The study, published last month in the Journal of Great Lakes Research, found that the top predators in the Great Lakes are highly exposed to banned flame retardants, still widespread in the environment.

Michigan’s population of bald eagles is stable, but the compounds have been linked in other birds to impaired reproduction, weird behavior and development, and hormone disruption.

“While the sensitivity of eagles to PBDEs has yet to be determined, there is a possibility that the exposures reported here may be associated with sub-clinical effects,” Nil Basu, an associate professor at McGill University who led study while at the University of Michigan, said in an email.

The champagne-like fizz produced when a raindrop hits the ground may be responsible for the earthy aroma after a rainstorm.

Most perfumes are made of hundreds of synthetic chemicals and they often contain phthalates and other hormone disruptors. Not a great way to say "I Love You" on #ValentinesDay. But there are safer alternatives. #Organic Perfume is a great option. Want a raise? Summer's Eve says in their recent ad in Women's Day that the most important thing women should do is wash our vaginas with their toxic perfumed product. Your accomplishments? Yeah, they don't mention them until #8.

I didn't realize when I woke up this morning that I had traveled back to 1950.

If the smell of your vagina is keeping you from getting a raise you probably should be more concerned with seeing a doctor.

How does something like this get approved? Think of the levels of approval this had to go through both at Summer's Eve and at Women's Day. How many people thought this was ok? How many women were involved in this? It would be funny if it wasn't so offensive.

What do you think?
So, ladies, you say you want a raise? How should you go about getting it? First, you have to figure out how to compe...

There is a strong relationship between gut health and mental health. And we are only just beginning to understand it. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/01/04/gut-bacteria-mental-healt_n_6391014.html
In recent years, neuroscientists have become increasingly interested in the idea that there may be a powerful link between the human brain and gut bacteria. And while a growing body of research has provided evidence of the brain-gut connection, most ...
